this sounds like its his first major trip on two wheels. hes not even drinking age yet. we all just want to make sure hes safe out there. is this what you would tell your kid on his first major trip? on a bike that is older than him?

I appreciate all of the advice guys!

Yes, this will be my first 'big' trip, and yes the bike is 4 years older than I am, but I certainly feel capable of making this trip, which I won't be alone on (2 Connies and a Vulcan in my group). I just wanted to make sure that the bike was up to the challenge, and after checking all of the above points, I think we'll be fine.

With that said, anything else I should check?

i think youve got more than enough things to check...
but, one thing i learned on my third big trip was that having a magnetic tank bag makes life a whole lot easier...
pack it full of some soft stuff so you can lean on it from time to time incase you get cramped up.
and anything you need on hand will be readily avaliable.

I'm sure he's more than capable, regardless of age. What he doesn't need is everyone going Chicken Little on him and 400 miles isn't a major trip, it's a long day ride. It is my opinion that, a good response would have been:

    1. Check chain tension and lube
    2. Inspect tires for any tread damage
    3. Check Tire pressure and adjust if necessary
    4. Confirm proper oil level
    5. Check coolant level
    6. Check correct operation of lights and turn signals
    7. Fill tank with gas
    8. Ride

Some of these posts sound like they were put out by OSHA.

Thanks for backing me NCB. That list was exactly what I needed.

And RC46, the tank bag will be full of exactly what you said, and it will definitely make life easier!
