Got lucky on checking eBay periodically over the last few months to find a decent headlight replacement. The one I pulled out has a bunch of housing/mounting damage, and I wasn't sure which parts I was missing from it.

Realistically I have no use for the other one, so it's likely destined for the bin next time I do a spring cleaning. If someone has use for it, let me know.

Nice score. Pull what you can (bushings, collars, etc) from the old one and bin it.

Going to grab some of those smoke signals you posted in the other thread since my turn signals are destroyed as well.

Tip to anybody else that's thinking about buying those from that seller... add them to your watch list. It's likely the seller will offer a discount to move the item. I did the same thing with the above headlight, and the guy dropped 25% or something the day after I added it.

Maybe this is common knowledge to eBay pros--but it was news to me. I learned about it when my brother told me he uses it when he tries to move a bunch of his side hustle inventory.

Just a warning, they are not "bolt on". You will have to remove (most - all?) the plastic welded insert that reduced the hole for the US turn signal stay and come up with a solution for the rear mount screw.

Maybe you can convert for a surface mount, not "flush" mount.

Hm. It's been a while since I've looked at the neglected VFR700. Realistically this thing is just going to keep getting shuffled to the bottom of the project list, but I wanted to start to piece a few things together to see if maybe I can get it rideable. Probably not legally rideable since the entire brake light fairing assembly is destroyed. But maybe I can get the tank and set on.
    • Fired up and runs
    • Fuel pump works (I wasn't sure which was inlet/outlet, so wanted to verify before cutting new lines)
I'm trying to cut down the amount of projects I have since I keep getting deeper into this whole racing rigmarole. If anyone in the midwest ever finds themselves looking for a project '86 VFR, let me know. Until then though, I'm going to keep slowly plucking away at things.

I need to do some cutting on the Airtech fairing to fit the brake lights. Still not clear on how it's actually going to mount since there are no mounting pegs, but thinking I might be able to get my buddy to 3D print some, and I can JB weld them into place. That'll wait until the snow is flying though.

Also I maybe just wanted an excuse to share that I got to run the ASRA races at Daytona last weekend. If there wasn't a bike right in front of me proving you could drive up that banking, I don't think I would have done it. Unbelievable experience. I didn't run great, and the motor may be blown, so I missed half of my races, but an experience I'll never forget.

Pretty sure it's a cooked exhaust valve on the SV. But that's actually why I started working on the VFR again. I need to start clearing out some of the boxes of things and items I have on shelves or hanging on the walls. The gear driven cam whine sounds so awesome.

That sounds like a good experience even if the SV is cooked for a little while. I can't remember, did you want that tail section? I am flushing out my garage a bit.
Oh and I 3D printed some "nubs" for Big Red awhile back. I can look for the file if you want. It worked out well. Just epoxy them on once you are sized length wise.

100% I would want that file, absolutely. I'll send my email address in a private message if you don't have it already.

I'll know on the tail section in a week. I understand the desire to flush the garage of stuff you're not using. I just may have fallen into a full set of identical bodywork to mine.

It wasn't intentional. It's becoming a problem. My uncle raced that bike for about 15 years as well as his son. His son recently hung up the leathers and he's liquidating a lot of his bikes. I say one thing about "That's a nice looking SV you got there..." and then the damn thing ends up at my house.

I think it has an electrical issue--likely reg/rec which is why I took an interest in some of the reg/rec symptoms people were posting about on here a few weeks ago. I made it 1.8 laps at road America be before it died and I pushed that thing back. If I start it and run it til hot, it'll eventually get to one cylinder and just die. I'm thinking it's heat related and not fueling related. So yea I've got three SV's and none that actually work right now.

Hence my wanting to get some work done on the VFR now before I start turning everything into an SV storm in the house. That, and I really want to actually try riding the VFR. It feels like a damn tank compared to the VF500F!

Roll a couple VF1000 around the shop for a while and the VFR will feel very light.

If anybody in the Midwest is looking for a running project 1986 RC26 with a title, let me know. Realistically, I know it's not going to get the attention it should to get the bodywork in good-enough-for-street-riding for a while. I've just got too many race bike projects going on. I've learned that rebuilding engines is expensive. And I've also come to the conclusion that I'd hardly ride this bike even if it was in tip top shape given how little street riding I do and the fact I like the size of the 500 much more.

I'm not looking to immediately move it and go through the whole craigslist/facebook marketplace nonsense. Not yet, anyway. I reached out to V4Dreams, and he's going to keep a lookout for me as well. $1000 is what I'd be looking for from someone on here. If we make it to summer and I can actually get it ridden and street legal with lights, I'll play marketplace roulette for a different number.

I have not yet ridden the bike, so things like chain and tires have no miles on them. I had it running a couple months ago off the auxiliary fuel tank. I verified the fuel pump was working as well but didn't fill the tank since I didn't want to have to drain it again and verify it was totally dry.

Interesting... you know why everyone always gets those broken images that load if you click "reply" or "edit"? It happens if you copy/paste an image into the body of the post. If you use the "upload file" button, the images don't break.

I would like to purchase your bike. Would have to arrange transport to Florida, so if you are OK with a hopefully short wait period while I get that lined up, we can move forward.

    I will send a PM.

    Thanks!

Well, forget about the bike being available. I'm going to be sending this bike south to Bazza since he's purchased it, and it'll have a lot better shot of pounding the pavement again in 2025 with him. We had a lengthy conversation about the bike (probably need to have at least one more), and now just need to figure out transport from here to there.
