Ya see, once you give them a bike, then it is taken away, they are alot like US. They may find other things to fill the "void" where the bike once was.....

Ah, you know me too well. Futurama is my current favourite show, until dexter comes back in september.

I am sorry guys, the bike isn't getting painted until mud comes home.
The plan was for us to work on it together, and I am willing to do most of the work but not til she gets back.
I forgot this thread was even here.on purpose. LOL. I already put the suzuki back together and have rode her around for a bit.
Anyways, I wont be visiting this thread again for another 2 months, unless she gets released early for good behavior.
and I strongly doubt that will happen.
Till then, working on my own bike.
    thanks.

Well. FLYNVFR has offered to help me in the endeavor, and Bweiss has offered as well. So we will knock it out quickly when she returns.

However. I am bored. And it's too late to return the paint I bought. So I figured I could do a little work myself and get the original job done... and then let Flyn and B help me with a more professional job in a few months. Besides by doing this I am getting some of the tedious work done ahead of time.
    Like the bloody decals.

You guys have no idea how much time and energy these decals have sucked out of my life. First with the blow dryer and the fingernails to get the decals off. The There was this residue that wouldn't come off for anything. It was awful. Me and the TOE CUTTER spent a while in his driveway over a few beers trying various chemicals and techniques. He said that the stuff seems pretty happy where it was at, and wasn't coming off for anything. So the best we could do was get the tackiness to go away, and now I am sanding the rest off. I have one panel done, and starting on the other. Will post more pics if I get primer done tonight.
Until my vfr is done ( everything is good to go, except the brake pedal, and that should be remedied on Tuesday ) the little Suzuki is my transportation so I am leaving the tank for next weekend. Right now, just getting the side overs, the tail grab and the brake light cover done.

Here is what it looks like before sanding. You can see plenty of leftovers of the sticky decals that baked themselves into the plastic over years of sitting in the sun.

And here is after about 3 hours of peeling, rubbing, cursing, sanding ( and then finally wet sanding, good advice Bweiss! )

One side down, one to go, as well as the tail end. Should go quicker now that I have my technique down. I hoping to get primer done tonight.

Also, my foot is in there for some reason.

Ready to figure out how to do this is my garage without making a mess. ( the primer and paint ).
Luckily melissa is still at TOE's so I have a pretty big area to work with.
    wish me luck.

ok here is the final coat of primer ( note the little dangly thing I improvised to suspend the 3 dimensional parts ) - meatloaf and bweiss concurred that those parts at least should be suspended. Old fish tank stand that i wanted to throw out but mud made me keep, old microphone stand and coat hangers.

whoo! paint is a differant ballgame from primer that is for sure.
Didnt fog up the garage half as much, but it did come out in a bigger volume
First coat was light. Gonna do the second a little bit heavier and #3 is gonna be plenty wet, and dry till the morning.
Planning on 3 coats ( just did one ) and calling it a night.
Final post for the night with pics in 1 hour.
I havent decided on clear coat or not yet.

Well shit guys, final coat is about to happen, and no one is here to hold my hand. It's 2 am.
A lifetime ago when I was an automechanic, I tried to put some racing stripes on my old hot rod chevy stepside.
Not that I am a fan of racing stripes, and that truck looked faster then it was...I digress.
Anyways, I had some chips missing out of an otherwise flawless paintjob, they were on my hood and the nose.
So I did want any redneck that was broke would do.
I bought a bra for the nose and painted two big ass racing stripes down the hood.
I was struggling with the last coat ( rattle can once again, mind you ) and one of the detailers was sharing a six pack with me and helped me finish it up, and it turned out pretty damn good.
He said to keep it very wet on the last coat. But not too wet.
I have no idea if that means keep the can closer or spray longer or what!
So I will post the results, and you experts can comment on what I shouldve done, because by the time you read this, it will be done.
    here I go.

    OK its done.
I am thinking I will try to tackle the tank and front fender by this weekend so if any of the pros out there could give me some advice on tank prep that would be great.
TOE CUTTER is going to help me remove the front wheel to remove the front fender I hope.
I have taken the tank on and off enough times now, that wont be an issue, however, the clear coat is over the deacals and I am unsure as to how to remove them in an efficient and timely manor, not too mention the locking fuel cap.... do I remove it? do I mask it off? vfrhusband, bweiss, stosh, beta, anyone I forgot to mention?
keep in mind, this is supposed to be a kick ass rattle can job, but done on an extreme budget of time and money, as flyn will be helping me do it professionally soon.
    thanks in advance.
Final pics of the evening in next post.
just got a little cleanup to do, before I lose my energy.
