He's been called the G.O.A.T. for a reason! People are always gonna go for an underdog, I like Eugene Laverton too but that's cos he races under an Irish flag!

But in saying that he's messed it up this weekend!

If you've watched Rossi through many races and the kind of passes and come from behind wins, it's apparent to me, he has incredible talent. He also has many first place positions where he just continues to pull away from the pack time after time as well as riding his bike at it's full capacity given some of the moves and incredible handling he pulls off. Look at his life history and that might help explain part of why he has the talent and record he has. With talent comes opportunities to ride with the very best bikes and teams in the world. So, yes, IMO, he will go down as one of the best to ever ride. He has to have totally frustrated many a great competitor.

The fact that you an even ask the question is proof that he is one of the greatest ever (it's impossible to say who is *the* greatest at anything). What I'm getting at is his age - no one that I know of in the modern era, with the physicality of modern racing, has kept up for as long as he has and still won. And people say bla bla he always had better bikes, that's just not true (probably true some seasons). This is a guy that was utterly consumed by racing bikes, that dedicated his entire life to it, and won, won, won, won. You can't chalk that up to a bike, like saying someone like Hendrix had access to the best guitars; it doesn't work that way.

The greats push their tools to the limit, not vice versa.

Sorry, yes it does. I seem to remember a spell on some Italian bike that wasn't so good....it was called a Ducati, I believe. Comparing guitars to motorcycles isn't a good comparison, imho. Kinda like comparing sex with your hand to sex with a supermodel.
