Thanks for the comments. My first bike ever was a 1986 VF500F. After that bike I moved on to the CBR line for many years before coming back to the Interceptor. I have always LOVED the 1986 line up. For me, it is the best bike offering of all time. I made the decision about 7 years ago that I wanted to collect the main bikes for that year (500, 750, 1000). The 1000 is the most elusive. I first found the 750 about 7 years ago. It was in good shape and it took me almost 3 years to restore it. I found the 500 about 5 years ago with only 660 miles on it. It had sat for 15 years and had issues related to that. It took me 2 years to restore it. Both bikes are cherry - as close to showroom condition that you will find. Your timing is good. I'm in the process of closing a deal on yet another one and I hope to make the annoucement soon, so stay tuned.

I am more jealous than you can imagine! I love the styling of the mid 80's Honda's like yours and mine. Though mine is in good condition, it's nowhere near your stable.

I still need to break in my 07 VFR. When it finally reaches about 500 miles, I'm going to start using Royal Purple 10W30 or 10W40. I heard great things about their motorcycle blend. What about you guys?

The Germans developed synthetic gasoline not long before World War II. It involves the hydrogenation of lignite coal. However, if I recall correctly, only 10% of the output was generated as gasoline, and the rest was fit for heating oil and the like. Also, this was a very low octane fuel, around 60-70 ROM. Gasoline of that quality needs lead additives to allow for higher octane numbers.

I am getting ready to do the 1rst oil change on my 07, and am planning on doing it every 3k- Honda has been at 10k oil change intervals on their cars for several years now- until the latest "Maintenence Minder" system that tells the owner when to change it based on operation history. I have always felt and told customers- I have never seen an engine damaged by too many oil changes but I sure have seen plenty ruined by too few oil changes. I had good luck using Mobil1 Synthetic (motorcycle type) on my Suzuki GS500, so that's what I'll use on my VFR. Also, I don't buy into the whole "wait to use synthetics for 10k until the rings seat- the rings seat really quickly, otherwise it would use oil like crazy and smoke like a train. That's my experience anyway. one other thing, with the cars anyway Honda sent out a technical bulletin stating not to change oil before 5k in the cars becasue they have a special "break in" oil fill from the factory with specific additives to help the process along. Don't know if that's the case for motorcycles but it wouldn't suprise me at all.
