Finally got my bike back together after being apart since before Thanksgiving. The wheels turned out fantastic, and I'm thrilled. I also did the 30,000 mile maintainance including new NGK Iridium plugs.

If you need some powdercoating done in the KC area, I highly recommend Crosslink Powder Coating Of KC: Home Page .

    Here's some pics. Enjoy.

Nice. I like how it cleans up the wheel areas so the brakes and everything "pop" a little bit more. It's no longer this dark shadowy area. Cool.

What finish did you get? Could you get a close up picture of the texture/finish? ...and how much did it cost if you don't mind?

The first thing that comes to mind is my '87 Honda Hurricane 600 with the same red rims. I like it. Nice job.

Thanks. I've always felt the rear of the bike is just too black, black carbon fiber hugger, black tire, black lines, etc. So I was hoping the red carried over from the frame to the wheel would help, and I think it did. I was a bit worried that it would be too much red, but I don't think so now that it's done.

The finish is smooth, shiny but doesn't have a clear coat. The guy at the shop said that might be bit too shiny and not look as good in this application.

I actually had the wheels to two different shops. The color from the first shop was too orange, and they didn't seem to have any interest in getting it done right. So I picked them up and took it to the second shop which did a super job. Of course I had to have a sandblasting shop strip the wheels after the first job because powdercoat is a b***h to remove, so they tell me. So including the sandblasting job to remove the powdercoat, it cost $200 for both wheels. If I had brought the wheels to them the first time, it would have been about $185 including stripping the original paint. I thought it was pretty reasonable.

Looks very nice FJ12. I agree that the price seems pretty reasonable, I may have to check with them and see what they could do to mine as well. Thanks for the pics.

It's kind of a pain stripping the parts off the front wheel, but not a horrible job. Worst part is removing and replacing the bearings, and that isn't too bad. I have the Harbor Freight tire changer so getting the tires on and off isn't too bad either.

The shop picked up the wheels from the sandblaster and I had them back a week after I dropped them off at the sandblasters.

I love the Yosh a lot. I started with stock, tried a Two Brothers but thought the sound was a bit too tinny. Then I tried a Micron and loved the sound but it was just too loud, very throaty but too loud for me. The Yosh is an excellent compromise: fairly quiet, but really rips when you open it up. Never offensive... at least not to me.

I removed the tires from front and rear wheels, and stripped the parts off the front wheel myself. I bought new 80 degree valve stems, new wheel bearings and seals, and did all the reinstalling of stuff myself. The cost for stripping and painting was $200, the new parts were about $50. So I didn't have to spend a huge amount.

I was honestly surprised that powdercoating the wheels didn't cost a lot more than it did.

Hey FJ12; I really like the look of the bike with red wheels, also your bike has very clean lines
which I like alot. If it runs as good as it looks , it's gotta be plenty fast. eddie

Looks great as stated. Im doing the same on my gen 4 but have another application of stripper to use to get the original powdercoat off before I get them done. Paint looks like a good match!

Thanks, the match is super close. I was very happy with it after he was done. He had several pieces in the shop that matched the fender when I went to talk to him, so I was pretty optimistic.

Just saw this, those wheels look great! Do you have the formula/code for the powder coat color?

Thanks, glad you like them. I had the code written down but can't find it now. I PM'ed a guy that I sent it to and asked him to send it to me. I hate to bother the guy that did them again. If I don't hear anything from the PM I'll call the paint guy and get it.
