it looks good in pictures. It's not a professional job yet. When the decals come in then I have 2 panels to do some paint touchup on, light sand everything, more clear coat, sand, clear coat, sand, clear coat.....

Wife's kinda had her limit of me spending every day in the garage so I'll be enjoying the bike for a couple months as is before finishing up the cosmetics. There's plenty of other tinkering and putzing around that still need to be done (i.e. flushing fluids, changing brake pads, etc..)

Balanced the carbs yesterday. Haven't adjusted the pilot air screws from factory settings. Runs and idles real well but has a tendency to stall when you chop the throttle (probably pilot air screw adjustments...). The metal center stand cover panels still need to be installed. The neutral switch is flaky. Need to verify that the charging system is functioning. I put a fully charged, brand spankin new sealed battery in the thing and after a month of setting it went stone dead. I know sitting has nothing to do with charging but now I'm concerned about walking.

Maybe it isn't perfect, but it's now a FAR cry from what you started with!

Are the carb/needle diaphrams and springs in good shape? Is there an accelerator pump? Maybe that's why it quits when snapping it open?

kinda frustrating that I got bit by the R/R. Could have been riding all week and now it sets. I even considered taking a few moments to test it out weeks ago while I was still messing with body panels. That would have been nice because the part would be here already instead of waiting until Thursday.

seems to me, it was similar to a Mazda metallic blue. The paint was Dimension brand from Sherwin Williams Automotive Finishes store. Cost was around $80 or $100 for a quart. Then you need reducer, primer mix, and clearcoat mix. Sanding and all the other bullshit - job cost just under $300 in materials.

Thanks! That's a small price to pay for somethin you like. I also like the blue from the new vfrs but..any suggestions for taking off the decals? Or just a razor and heat gun?

No idea. OEM decals on all the bikes I've had are under the clear coat and have to be sanded off and resprayed. Maybe some newer bikes are different.

Decals under the clearcoat can be sanded off. This requires a repaint even if the finish is not a "metallic" . The Vinyl graphics can be removed with heat. Better a hair dryer than a heat gun. Any adhesive residue can be removed with plain paint thinner aka mineral spirit aka Stoddard Solvent, VM&P Naptha, Lighter fluid or barbeque starter fluid.. Not laqquer thinner or acetone..

    The 1990 sold last night.

Younger guy, 1st bike, no license yet.

She got a 2nd lease on life - lets hope it takes good care of the newbie, and he of it :)

Told him about VFRW and warned him not to come online and ask for the best oil or best tires.

The wife and my last ride together with it, Christmas toy drive:
