Hey my name is DJ finally got a first gen 84 vf500f. Been wanting one for years.
I'm based out of Everett area but commute Arlington to Redmond.

So the vf500 I bought ended up having a blown motor block is cracked piston and head toast from a dropped valve.
Once I find a motor I hope to be riding but so far no luck in my search even went to Canada and that was no luck.

    Welcome aboard!!

Did you purchase the bike knowing the motor was shot or was it discovered post purchase??

Bought it not knowing motor was destroyed. Ya I checked eBay but most won't ship or they say for parts only. I end to Canada to buy the one off of cl well u can't bring motors back to usa that arnt in a car or bike with a title.
I have wanted posts everywhere I can think of even have my bike for sale since I can't find a motor don't want to sell it but it's just sitting in my shop.

Sorry, Bunky, but if you had enough good sense to ask about VF500s here before you bought we could have told you to watch for bad motors and how to detect them easily before you made a bad mistake. If you knew more about the problems common to VF500s engines we could have saved you money and frustration. Unless you can hear it run sweetly, don't even consider any 500 purchase unless it's a parts-only buy.

And this is the reason you won't find anybody selling a motor
