I spent some time at the weekend replacing the oil cooler and pipes and have to say they look good. Got the right hand footrest hanger assembly off, but have a slight problem....

I want to take the left hanger off, but that involves removing the swingarm pivot bolt altogether. Can I do this with the bike on the stand or will the swingarm drop? Looks like an awful lot of work to get the hanger off.

I saw a suggestion recently that you could push a decent-sized screwdriver through the swingarm/engine as you pull the bolt out, which would keep the parts together and make re-insertion of the bolt easier. Haven't done it myself but it makes sense. Probably supporting the weight of the wheel a little (small wedge of wood) with the bike on the centrestand would also be beneficial to make sure there is minimal load on the swingarm pivot.

Thanks for that. I actually only need to remove the pivot bolt briefly to get the bracket off then I suppose I can slide it straight back in. Hopefully! Nothing has been straightforward on this bike so far though!!

Wow, it's been a long time since I updated this topic. I couldn't get access to the site for some reason for ages. Anyway, I bought a length of steel rod and drove it through the main bolt hole as the bolt came through and it all held together, allowing me to remove the footrests, dismantle them and get them off to the powder coating place. The rear footpads aren't painted so they were media blasted. Everything came back beautifully and while I was at it I had the heat shield powder coated too. It all went back nicely and I treated isles to new pivot pins and sinrgs for the footrests to keep everything shiny.

After the second time out I lost my speedo so got hold of a speedo sensor from fleabay together with a nicer clutch slave cover, a replacement clutch hose and a better set of brake lines for the front as mine had very nasty rusty banjos. I chickened out of bleeding the brakes and clutch and had the dealer do it!

I got a few more cosmetic items such as new screws for the brake and clutch reservoir tops (rusty as hell) and a very nice original and never used silencer. The baffles in mine had turned to rust.

I've added a picture of the newly powder coated footrests.

    Wow, what a thread!

Credit to you for sticking with it and putting up with all those obstacles. Funny how with motorcycle rebuilds fixing one thing suddenly means you have to unexpectedly fix another 3 things that were broken in the process.

Still, you've pulled through and ought to be very proud of your progress. Not to mention the wonderful machine you've now ended up with...second time round.
