Nice looking bike, strangely familiar looking. I see that you are over in Waterloo, I'm just over in guelph. Not that far. What dealer are you taking it to? I have to get my wiring updated too and there is no dealer here. I would be interested to find out how it goes.

I'm having what seems to be a similar problem so I thought I would check the recall status on my 02 I recently purchased. Seems the wire harness hasn't been done. Call the local dealer and he wants me to leave the bike with them while the part is on order. He claims this would take 2 weeks. I am going to seek out another dealer, but is this common for a dealer to hold your ride while a recall part is on order?

Tell them to order the part and call you when it is ready to be work on. Normally they don't keep the bike in the shop that long without working and making money. Does not make sense here.

    I agree with Long,

I've even called ahead to have a dealer get ready to do the job when I flew in to buy a bike in Dallas. I gave them a week to get the part before I arrived with my new toy to get the warranty done before riding it home. There is no reason to park the bike for two weeks during the riding season.

Thought it was BS, but I was told by the jackass on the phone that this was their policy on recalls. Going to find another dealer. Bottom line they won't get my business in the future.

Hi PB, although there's a lot of pointing at the electrical system I wonder if you've run any injector cleaner through the system? If the bike was s at for a while with even just a little fuel in the tank it may have gummed up and that stuff will still linger even with a few fresh tanks of fuel... Also, a spark plug breaking down under load can/will give the same sort of symptoms as your loss of power followed by stall then cooled enough to get home etc so might be worth asking the dealer to change plugs when you get the harness done too...
    Cheers,
    Mick

I had another hiccup yesterday. I had just started the bike up a minute earlier, was pulling up to exit the parking lot at work when I pulled in the clutch and once again noticed the low idle of 800-500 rpm. I gave the throttle a blip but it didn't correct the problem so I just killed the engine, restarted it and voila: problem gone, idling resumed to 1200rpm.
Not much was similar between the two rides where I experienced the issue, different tanks of fuel; lengths of time riding; engine temperatures... The only connecting circumstance I can think of is that in both cases the bike had gotten properly wet earlier in the day from riding in the rain.

Still waiting for the recalled harness.

As someone mentioned, you might want to go through the motorcycle and clean all the grounds and electrical connections that are part of the charging system. This is almost free and should be done anyway. The voltages you mention are on the lower side of normal, based on what other members have reported.

Are there any FI codes stored?

Sounds like a policy to avoid doing recall work.

Well, the recall was done yesterday and someone else's was in line to get it done the today. I've only had a total of 2 incidents over ~1000km, so we'll see, but no problems on the way to work this morning and I'm hoping it doesn't turn up again.

Where did you end up getting the recall done and how long did they have it?

I took it to KW Honda. It took a week or two to get the part, then they only kept my bike in the shop for a day.

That would work for me. How was the quality of their work? We're you satisfied?

Meh, I mean it was a wiring harness, all I can say is that nothing stands out as being amiss.

Pawnboy, so any more hiccups or did doing the recall harness fix you up?

Check the grounds, check the FI codes. Increase idle to 1350RPM instead of the 1200+-100 recommended. What is your gas mileage? should be 38mpg-44mpg.

Is the bike stock as far as you know, especially within the exhaust department? No Power Commander and still utilizing O2 sensors?
