Squirrelman seems to have gone on to other pastures....it's a shame, more and more of the original posse seem to have found a reason to not participate here anymore. Hopefully, he is OK.

I appreciate the squirrel. I agree with his assessment of the 1983-85 VFs, but I am an addict. Still, now that my 1984 VF750F is running well I should replace the fork seals and sell it. squirrelman, are you interested? ;-)

BTW, don't run your bike with the choke on. Bad news . . . .

I agree with the comment regarding the bad etiquette in posting the services of a carb rebulder in a thread made about someone in our community that rebuilds carbs and did a good job for the OP.

When IC asked for contact info, hopit should have just PM'd him the info or just posted the contact info. (though that is still rude)

    Bad form....bad manners

I think a mod should clean up this thread.

Respectfully - I am not sure how asking Hopit88 for Billy Carr's contact information should be considered as rude. I can see your point that I could have sent a PM to Hopit88 but then again I thought that gathering up good intel was part of the VFRWorld esprit de corps.

No no no no. We have a misunderstanding.

I think it was Rude that Billy Carr's information, pictures of his work PLUS further details about his service was posted in a thread about another members Carb rebuilding.

The thread was to shed light on Squirrelmans work regarding carb rebuilds and to praise it. Having someone thread-jack it by putting up Billy Carrs work is RUDE.

I don't think it was was rude that you asked, IC. I apologize if the misunderstand was in anyway my fault.

No worries - and thank you for the post. I agree that thread-jacking isn't the best but sometimes very good information comes out of it.

On a side note, I am such a fan of Hopit88's current project bike that I will admit that I may have been running out of the dugout too quickly - over what I thought was a bad call.

If someone posts a thread that says "I have found THE only place on Earth to buy tires", be prepared for a ton of people to come on to say they know of an even better place, better price, better service etc. It seems silly to me that other's wouldn't be allowed to bring up their thoughts. His thread was not hijacked. Hijacked is when you take over a thread with shit that doesn't apply. Giving an alternative to something mentioned in a post is what forums are all about. If people's feelings are hurt by that, then maybe open forums are not for them.

I just re-read the OP's first post and every post before you said
...and it's not mentioned anywhere that Squirrelman is the one and only place to get carb work done.

The OP said Squirrelman was a carb Guru....and proceeded to comment on the good work he did.

I understand the posting of Carrs work. It is undeniably pretty looking....and this is a public messageboard. Politeness isn't in the Form rules.

I just think that if someone starts a thread that is basically a review on someones work, you don't start posting about someone else that can do the same job and say they are better.

If I start a thread with a positive review about me getting a Corbin recovered and how great it looks...someone shouldn't come along and post in the same thread
I think a separate thread should be created.

....and yes IMHO it is thread jacking. The subject was Squirrelman and his great carb rebuilding and you started posting in the thread with Billy Carrs stuff, essentially turning a positive review thread for Squirrelmans business into advertising Billy Carr.

I'm not trying to attack you personally Hopit. I have no issues with you and I look up to the work you have and are doing with your bike.....I'm just trying to give everyone a fair chance here.

I'm trying to work with Billy Carr right now, but he seems to be into the earlier years and not so much the 86-87 bikes.

Has anyone found a source of carb parts for the 86-87 VFR700's? I cant find anything on ebay or the web. The dealer sells kits at about $70 per carb which is rediculous.

I'm here on this site almost every day, eager for carb work and have a new phone #@ 716 836-0154.

I welcome any carbs from any Honda 1965-1997 for cleaning or rebuilding..... depending on parts availability.

Rexter's fulsome praise was unsolicited but much appreciated, just a guy who's happy to be riding after his problems were solved.

Billy's work takes ages, and i almost always turn around carb work in 10 days or less if requested. Also, my basic service price is more than $50 less expensive than his, if that matters.

Squirrel how are you with Gen 3 carbs? Do you mess with them? You guys are right..Billy seems not to be interested in Gen 2 and Gen 3 carbs..I called him a few weeks ago wanting some work done but never heard back from him again. He did say they were more of a pain to work on then the Gen 1..
Squirrel can you PM me some rates on what service you provide?? Thanks

Billy Carr took my money and ran.

I ordered floats Valve assys and Float bowl o-rings (for my old 2nd gen) from him and after taking my money and accepting the order, he e-mail'd me once and never responded ever again. >:-(

    Bastard.

    Please !!!!

Squirrelman is a very modest guy, low-profile and self-effacing, and this entire thread has been a royal embarassement.

Rexter was impressed because his carbs were fixed for about $250 less than his dealer quoted, and he was SO HAPPY to be riding again, not because i can do anything that any ordinary average rider who knows carbs and has 35 years experience working on them can't do just as well.........and has 4-5 hours to get the job done right.
