I will have to remeasure, but this RVF is running 50mm (measured at the top triple) forks. I am guessing from a same period 900?. Also, are those Torx Cap Head Screws? I will need some new sockets. :(

Those are the stock forks. It's just that somebody anodized the tubes in blue for some reason.

Hmm Good to know. It has a very odd handling characteristic. Transition is difficult, but it holds a line like a som bitch. Very heavy steering for such a little bike.

Something not right then. Mine will turn just by thinking about it, actually, it felt too easy sometimes. I also understand that mine has been changed up quite a bit with the wheel and other things I did to trim weight off the front. I also had a MotoSpec chassis measurement done by my guys to confirm everything was straight and aligned and then things were moved around to hit the recommended numbers. I did convert my steering stem bearings to tapered rollers, but not sure if that has anything to do with it. It could be your chassis geometry, the steering stem nut preload, bearings, or a combo of all three. I would start there, if it were me.

Tires are new. I think it is geometry. I think the rear shock is longer or dialed out length wise more than stock and putting too much on the front. I sit and compare to the NC30 and it is a totally different story. Time to get to work I suppose. :)

I leave the bike for a month and the main fuse is blown. This has happened twice now. Is the battery dead and pulling too much power ? Input is welcome.

You tell us... is the battery dead?

Please define, "I leave the bike for a month". Sitting with the key off, unused the whole time?

I think your wife is sneaking the bike out and then blowing the main fuse on purpose when she's done to make it look like a ghost to scare you off her trail. And she would of got away with it too, if it wasn't for those meddling kids and that mangy mutt.

Battery leakge with the key switch off can happen through a failing RR; worthwhile measuring current flow from the battery with the key off/out to double check. Otherwise you may just need a new battery.

A blown fuse on the other hand is serious and needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.

Time to go back through that ugly rats nest of wiring you posted up in that earlier photo. Start with what you touched when you did the body kit and go from there.

Thanks all. With this body kit EVERYTHING is buried. So it will be a full bodywork tear down when I have time. I figured I would have to look at every wire. The whole tail is fiber glass and minimal framing, but maybe something got pinched. I rode it to work and everything was good. It was just when it was sitting.

    I blame scoobie

    ^^ awesome!

This 35 has been a PITA, but once I get the wiring figured out she should be reliable as can be expected. I am busy prepping the ‘86 VFR750 for sale so this is a “down the road” rework.

Back to the 35 while I have time. Battery removed from sarcophagus as it measured .113v. Measure while running on lift with new Shorai lithium at 13.15 steady and sitting key off at 13.15. No apparent drain just a shit battery. Can you spot the battery? Hahaha I haven’t even put the tail on yet. image.jpg

I know some don’t like the sinful bodywork but this bike has grown on me. Also removed the exhaust baffle and it sounds fooking crazy! Double up on ear plugs.

Last night I couldn't sleep. I started thinking about potential drain issues on the 35. I am not a whiz with electronics so I thought I would go back to basics. Starting at 9:45pm, I removed all the panels and went through the bike ground connections and checked general connector conditions. I found that the grounds did have continuity, but they looked pretty shady. I cleaned up the ring terminals on all I could find and cleaned the frame in those spots.

I found the 4 pin connector to the starter switch ( w/30a fuse) was burnt on the cable side. Looked like it has been that way for a while. Luckily I was given two nearly complete harnesses from 90's Hondas. So I cut out the old burnt connector and soldered the undamaged 4 pin conn from the other harness.
I finished around 1:40am this morning. I hope when I get home from work today that my battery is still topped up.

Oh and Rick Oliver doesn't fancy my bodywork either, but he has been more than helpful!

I know I post too much, but I was overjoyed riding the 35 to work. Ran it all the way out. 182k, 13,9k rpm, 6th gear. What a hoot! She sounds mean and is so fun to ride. She could use a suspension tune up or at least adjustment to my liking. Bike worked as hoped and she is now part of the "commute" gang. :)
