Squirrel, there is a reason they do basic training the way they do( albeit not the same as it once was). it is to train soldiers to be soldiers, part of a unit . not to be individuals, there is no time in a fire fight to be an individual. That's how lots of people get dead. you individual reasoning( we will call it that) is not taken away, its put away for times when it is needed.
Soldiers need to do what they do and not think about it till after they do it.
