I've heard that Canadians are a tough breed.

Didn't she recently retire? I'm just thinking that it will give her something to look forward to everyday. And if you wanted to be truly capitalistic, you could start stealing the neighbors batteries and charge $10 a push...

but then if you never have to replace it...
I have taken a Toyota to 238,000 miles and never replaced the starter motor. That particular car had only 3 repairs in all those miles, the first not until about 180,000 miles when a knock sensor went bad. Then two electric window motors, that was it, over 238,000 miles.

I agree. I have a couple of Hondas as well, and both of these have been pretty good for 100,000 miles on each.

Maybe its our NJ potholes that are sometimes deep enough to hide a midget in.

Good point. My Tacoma V6 has a little over 265,000 on it, and I haven't had to replace too many items out of necessity (O2 sensors, starter motor, differential pinion gear bearings the most "major"). Everything else has been preventative (timing belt, water pump, and the normal stuff).

I guess my real gripe is that anything that MIGHT need to be replaced should not require engine disassembly. I just "inherited" a 1989 Honda Accord, and thought I'd replace the timing belt to avoid potential problems. Not only does one of the engine mounts need to be removed, the shop manual warns that the entire powertrain might need to loosened and shifted to the left to remove the damn thing. If you know that a part will need to replaced as a service item, make it accessible without a lot of fuss and nonsense...

This greatly depends on the area you live in and what your vehicle is subjected to. The roads around here beat the crap out of suspension components all day long.

Yeah it's not a saftey issue on the GM's, just a really frackin annoying issue as you said. Had dozens of our slip shafts in my hands that made hellatious ammounts of noise in the car, but didn't even have any noticeable play in my hands. It's the small ammount of play between the two shafts causing noise, for a while, and still on some of them we packed them with grease to solve the issue. Then the grease came out and they made noise again, the General quickly found out that quick cheap fix didn't really work so well!!

I was going through my paperwork the other day and realized this is the thirs column in about less than 100K miles. Think next one I will make some noise, see if that will do anything. Don't expect them to re-design this just for me but at some point, I should no longer have to pay for this.

Once I knew a Mercedes owner that had to have the heater core replaced. -$900.00
As far as that door chime and interior light. I would take out the entire mess.
    Just make it right.

Some engineers should be put in a special prison for idiots.

Yes I went and looked at one of those at the dealership. But right now there are too many complaints on the first ones that were introduced in europe.
Low power was one of the complaints.
The cost of these new vans is in the stratosphere.

I am leaning towards a chevy full sized van with 75,000 miles.
First I have to sell my welding machine for a down payment.
I did not get the Lee Iocoka retirement plan.

Never really considered owning a van, except maybe for living in down by the river.

Well....after that, if I ever had any thoughts of owning a van, they are sure shot now. Vans were popular way back when. Guess I worked with a bunch of molesters. Sad thing is, I worked with a guy that had one like that nice clean White GMC with the extended roof. He needed it for his son who was very much special needs. Don't even know if that boy is still alive. He would be in sid 20's now if he was. There isn't ebnough space here to get into what that family has gone through.

What is it with ford engines and spark plugs. I've read so many stories about how they crap threading or plugs blowing out, stripping when replacing and how it sucks to even get to them. We had our mechanic do a tuneup to our work '04 F-150 including new plugs. I wonder if they even changed them. LOL
