I didn't see anywhere where it said prototype. It actually sounded like this was the final version, at least for now.

Even with the shrink tubing, and I am sure there will be big enough out there, it won't look good; better yes, but not good. It will still look out of place. Having two "arms" go out to the mirror mount, which is a flat oval shape, then to one arm to the mirror. This doesn't really make sense when there are several products already out there designed for just this purpose. Why not use one of them? Unless one comes up with something that looks better or works better, or is easier, it just doesn't make sense. The solid block ones availible aren't expensive and you can get them in aluminum or Delrin, and when installed, they look nearly stock, and are sure to be more stable since it is a flat mounting surface and the screw holes aren't going to be too big.

To the OP - what happened to your windscreen? It looks like you ran over a deer (or whatever the prevailing species is in Istanbul).

no idea about your particular project, but I don't think anyone here is against homemade solutions per se, I certainly am not. But sometimes they just don't work out as well as we had hoped. And it doesn't make sense to do this if there are other better solutions out there already. If no one else had addressed this previously, then OK. Or if he said, "I didn't like the other ones out there because XYZ, so I came up wtih this..." that would be one thing.

Exactly...i should have added some context to my post. For SLO III i made some custom luggage brackets to carry some bimmer bags that i have. on the way down, at 90 mph, they experienced an epic fail (twice!!!), and I wound up with a custom license plate.

    before heading out

    after the first fail

    the second fail

home made solution (in this case) = twice "epic" fail

    that says a lot...

    and those aren't exactly beautiful...
