Broken kill switch? Mine came with that. Don't miss it since I am now used to using the key. I suppose I will have to get around to fixing the kill switch someday.

I bought both in USA, the gold was 9-10 years ago, the yellow was 2 years ago.

I have never heard of someone using the kill switch until Anne Marie did this spring. Where did you guys get the idea to do that? What does it accomplish?

What about the riders that just kick the stand down, with the bike in gear and kill the motor? I guess my riding habits were developed in a time before we had all that stuff.

Good question, Glenn. When I took the MSF course, I was instructed to flip kill switch and then take the key.
I'm not sure of the point of it, and I never thought to ask during the course.

Since my last long ride, I have been making a conscious effort to not touch the kill switch when turning off the moto. This is now becoming habit.

I have to say though, when my oil filter blew, I flipped that switch so freaking fast. I know that helped save the engine. I would hope that it still is instinct after getting used to not touching the switch anymore.

I did that several times when I got my first moto. I'm sure I'll do it again sometime. :)
Hope your moto wasn't stranded too long.

Just a good habit to build muscle memory. When you had your issue you were able to kill the bike without letting go of the bars. Not using kill switches to save wear and tear is like not using your blinker switch for the same reason, just use it and clean it in 30 years when it gets sticky. My 86 Vfr sat out under a carport about a decade and the kill switch worked fine but felt sticky, little contact cleaner to get the crud out and it feels like new.

Yes, you are so right about muscle memory. I got on that switch so swiftly while maintaining proper control. If i wasnt taught anout the killswitch, I may have not thought to use it. I don't know. Interesting take on the killswitch and likening it to blinkers though.

It's amazing since that happened it's ingrained in me to turn the ignition off, then kill switch. No she wasn't stranded too long and she is now back on the road.

I am sure your instincts will still kick in for the kill switch if need be....like you said it was a good job you did!

Yes it took me a while to find the 2.8 it was a C reg, really low mileage and it was white. Not the most practical but hey who cares ha ha

My dad was a head mechanic at VW/Audi back in the 90's when I was a young teenager and loved cars and I have a ridiculous number of cars from Escort RS Turbo's to Corrolla GT Twin cams to a 1992 Audi S2 Coupe...Now I have discovered the world of motorbikes ha ha
