that really sucks man, you can prob sell the tire on CL to some squid for $50 as it's brand new and they dont care about sidewalls when doing stuntz. When you texted the pix I actually thought (for a second) that you had mad skillz and had burned up the sidewall on the road while cornering... silly me.

would locate the resevoir under the seat where the tools go (near grab handles).

if you are re-ordring a rear tire (and you should) stay with 170. a 180 will deform in the stock rim, offer less grip and full lean stability.

sorry, not true. The Gen3 has a 5.5in rim that can take 180s easily. This "incident" had nothing to do with a 180 vs. 170 but all to do with the mounting of the shock reservoir next to the sidewall of the tire.

as far as the width, I have mounted the SAME tire in a 180 on my 92 and have PLENTY of clearance. 5mm on each side is not going to make any difference especially since the profile is more pointed.

    for comparison
    170/60 Overall Diameter: 24.96″, width 6.50"
    180/55 Overall Diameter: 24.97", width 7.46"

.96" wider, no difference in diameter, 1/2" wider per side.

my comment was unrelated to the incident or clearance issue.

in my experience (and I do road race) wider rears make for slower steering and an 80 rwhp VFR750 doesnt really overpower a 170.

Even on my 110rwhp race gsxr750wp with 5.5" rim I preferred to stay with the original 170, the 180 made it slower steering.

The 3rd gen VFR is no quick steerer (by my standards) so i'd steer away :) from a wider rear.

2 wheel, after all you hard work for track days, I would strongly recommend you do the rear wheel eccentric rotation mod, it really quickens the steering, gives you more ground clearance and bike feels worlds better.

    my 0.02 cents

    cheers

    TG

Just dont want it anymore. Too slow, too heavy, too disappointed. Its a great bike, dont get me wrong. Just not what I was hoping for in the end. There isnt much else I can do with in reason to the bike. Going to purchase something newer.

EVEN though I raped beta at the track, i need something better for track days.
