Anyone thinking about getting a VFR, PLEASE get yourself a real one. You know, a red '98. :biggrin1:

Well, I did things a different way than most I think.

My first bike, which I currently have, is a Honda VTX 1300. Big heavy cruiser. I didn't want to deal with getting something to learn on, then selling it. Or risk getting something small I'd get bored of. Then again, I didn't have the mechanical knowledge I do now when I started so perhaps I would have gotten a beater to learn on.

I don't think the VFR would be a problem to learn on. It is relatively heavy to other bikes with the same styling yes, but it feels very well balanced. Aside from more git-up-n-go at the flick of the wrist, I think it may have been easier to get started on than my VTX. Oh well...

Good luck with the search :)

Well, it has been a while. I finished my MSF course then failed the written test at the DMV because I didnt study. I passed the next day with a 100 though. :)

Anyways, I found a really sweet VFR in Austin, Tx. The guy had a very sweet bike and it had low miles.

Then I found a 99 Suzuki Bandit 1200S for 1500 bucks with 13.5K miles on it in mint condition...

I have since added a 100/90 H4 headlight with the heavy duty wire/relay mod. I put 2K miles on her so far and she tops out @ 160 (speedo accuracy debatable). Very fun and faster than a WRX STI : )

So I just figured for posterity I would post the conclusion to my story.

I still yearn for a VFR but this one was less than half the price in the same condition.

My next project: Finding a community half as awesome as this one for my bike :(

    and the search goes on.

I know of a 160mph BB you could try. Not too many members overall but like most things, folks come and go.
