Yeah, Michael had it on the main page for a while. I have read it 2 or 3 times myself. Whenever I get to thinking I'm gonna do the mod, I read it then just shut up and go riding! :)

It really wasnt that hard. What made it a PIA is I went in totally blind. If you ever do a fork upgrade - ie Racetech - that would be the time to do it.

    Hey 5th genners

"I have commented on how a modded 5th beats the 6th."

Seems like a lot of mods just to beat a 6th gen.

Why not buy the 6th gen in the first place and get something good with which to start.

Oh and remember "no reserve on the tank" or the "rider"

Stirring the pot -huh? I wrote that a year and a half ago. The 6th does start with a better suspension, but 5th or 6th, I would have done the list to either. I didnt set out thinking to beat a 6th for me the 5th was the bike of choise. I ended up with a bike that was exactly what I wanted. Dont mean to set off another round of flames. Not going there.

Really the purpose of thread was to list the mods I have done. Maybe I should do an edit or retitle it.

There was a thread recently by a new member asking about a "reserve" on the fifth gen gas tank.
I told him after he had been around for some time he would notice there was no "reserve" on the "tank" or the "riders". As in reservations on comments made regarding the 5th and 6th on going discussions.
Oh those 5th guys aren't bad. Just dedicated.

Thanks dude. I changed the opening line in my post in your honor.

I admit I'm a wackjob at times. Thats the side of me that built the bike.

    Pease bro,

Wow, lots of work! All good ideas though. The little devil on the shoulder is persistent, isn't he. I once kept changing a Harley I had until it would loft the front wheel going into second. Then I finally realized I was better off having multiple bikes, one for every style. Sure can run into some money though.

The little devil ---I would like to bound and gag the little bastard, he wont go away. My to do mod list is growing still! ---> Bleah!

Bucks spent ---- Thats an understatement, I've spent more on mods than I paid for the bike.

Yeah but it satifies the itch. The trick is not to take it too far apart, cause then why it just makes sense to do this or that since I already have it apart. Then I always feel like I have to keep it forever cause you never get your money back, and it's hard to find that buyer that appreciates what you've done. It's the curse of the gearhead gadgetboy I guess. The money I don't even try to justify, some folks spend their disposable income on the ponies, mine goes to my machines!

Geez MD, thats alot of mods. I guess my first question would be how did you find out
about what crossbreed parts would fit on your 5th gen? The second, where
did you find all of these items? Anyway I have done similar things once to
a KTM motorcross bike, I spent lots of $$$ on suspension, wheels,
tires and engine modifications and I had the bike performing much
better than when it was stock, anyway one weekend I rode a
brand new KTM that was 3 model years newer than mine, well after
the ride,I just had to have a new bike ,so someone got a really great
older model KTM probably at a bargain price and I got a brand new
bike and my bank account took a nose dive, Anyway that was a dirt bike
that I was using for serious competition, now I consider the VFR to be
kind of like a classic car or hot rod ,so fixing it up is somewhat more
justified. Anyway I have lots of fun working on my bike sometimes more
fun than riding it. Anyway I'll bet your bike runs and handles very well, so
keep up the good work and let us less affluent 5th gen riders know when
you come upon a mod. that really kicks ass, eddie

I went in kinda dumb on this - now that I look at it - it was kinda bassackwards. Finding what parts would fit? Um - buy 'em off ebay and go from there. The RC51 brakes were really the anchor of the project. I was flat ass determined to make 'em work. The rest of it was back and forth from the dealer, and other stuff I just flat out had to make it to get it together at all.

Oh yeah - FS - 1 VFR800 front master cylinder and calipers, 1 set of Super Hawk Calipers, 1 set of F4i Calipers, lots of brake lines, and delink gear.

Yup, the bike still gives me a wow on how well it works.

Bad ass looking! Just a suggestion if you're REALLY bored maybe you could even do a carbon fiber plating. That and the holes would look cool and match the pipes.

Hi have looked at delinking my VFR and have just started after a big crash, what I would like to know is how to get hold of the brackets for the front mudguard (fender)
