I agree completely. My latest find (the 84 model with 2200 on the clock) made me wonder the same thing. I asked the guy I bought it from (gently, as not to offend. We hadn't exchanged dead presidents yet) and he just shrugged and said "I dunno. My girlfriend at the time really wasn't into it, so..."

"So you just sorta moved it around the garage from one side to the other for 26 years or so?"

"Yeah, I guess. I kinda thought I'd get back into it, but never did."

Shame. And I get the feeling there are a lot of guys like him with barely-used treasures in garages yet to be discovered. Another thing is a lot of these guys try it, get scared, or ins. gets too high for them, or they don't have any friends who ride or any friends that can perhaps educate them on riding, and they kinda fall out. (not me. I got into bikes specifically BECAUSE no one I knew rode.) Some of these guys also go under the mis-information/idea that their little antique will really be worth a schload one day "be able to put the kids thru college when I sell that one, fer sure". Then one day they get a reality check (easier to do with ebay's COMPLETED LISTINGS feature these days), see their little beauty sells for a little more than pocket money, and figure now's the time to sell, b/c it's only going to get worse the longer they wait. Then there's always the pressure from loved ones, etc that "yer gonna get kilt on that thing!" I never heard it, but I suppose if you heard that every time you walked in the door it would get old.
