Looks like I'll be looking to buy a sub frame.

The front right bolt that holds the rack for the trunk to the bike's frame snapped in half. Worked on it today and found out that the bolt hole piece in the rear right was no longer welded to the frame.
First, I need to remove the broken bolt so I can keep using the trunk, then either, need to buy a sub-frame or look for someone who can weld the piece back.
Been using the trunk for about four years now. Not looking forward to spend any money, but I guess I can't complaint.

Hard to tell exactly without pics but am guessing that a welding shop with TIG or MIG could knock that out in no time for a fairly small fee. Good luck.

Anybody wanna hear aboot my nephew who can weld anything? Oh shit, he lives in Hawaii! Sorry bout that.

There's gotta be a shitload of welding shops in OC. Maybe cruise a few an look for one with a bike parked in the lot or near the building. Have some nice things to say aboot Harleys memorized too.

Stay away from dealerships for this kind of work.

I've had a couple people stop by my shop with small jobs. I do it for free if they're not in a hurry.

Man that sucks. I think it must have been loose for a while and was hammering away destroying itself. You can get that welded for sure that's the easy part. Disassemble reassembly that's the pain. Did you use Locktite?

Thats why every so often you have to make sure everything is snug and secure. Just find a friend or local welder. ..job done..thank God you found it before the whole thing busted off at speed.

Just from the pix the threads need chasing. A good welder can fix the mount that's busted oof. (oof is a new Canadian word I just learned)

An old school trick when ya ain't got any Loc-Tite or glyptal is to use some paint. We used to use One-Shot or lacquer.

A wise man told me that a friend is worth more than money in my pocket.
I didn't have any luck -never had- with an easy-out. My neighbor extracted the broken bolt, welded the broken piece back together, and for good measure I had him add a few welds to the opposite side as well.
String test and eye check confirm the holes align how are supposed to, and I hope I don't have any issues bolting the rack back.
