Larry, I just want to help you a bit.

I suspect the average guy wanting a 3rd generation bike is going to purchase either a fixer upper or a bone stock model. All of those robust upgrades that you made? They want the fun of making those changes themselves. Now there is a beautiful, clean 1990 in Houston, older owner, bone stock bike for under $3,000. There is another that does not look bad and it is available for trade. Those are the prime candidates for selling successfully.

With regards to most other buyers you are actually competing with the entire population of available motorcycles. The person who knows that your bike is fun, a great performer, and wants carbs will then see 2014 VFRs with a couple thousand miles for a competing price of under $7,000. They will buy the new bike and think "someday I'll get a 3rd or 4th gen when I see a good deal."

Your bike is one of those cases where parting out the changes to guys desperate for 3rd gen upgrades, and putting the stock parts back on will probably bring a much greater take than the bike as a whole unit. A highly modified motorcycle is not worth the sum of its parts and labor unfortunately.

I guess you can cross Knight off your potential buyers list.

Sure is strange with all the guesses aboot what may have caused this particular bike to stall out, not a clue as to the asking price or the price after cutting it in half and all upset aboot some graphics that could probably be removed with a little elbow grease and rubbing compound.

Then again somebody who ain't that dull knife in the drawer or offended by a paint job may have already bought that puppy and done took it home.

Maybe Knat will buy your bike now. Maybe if you toss in some starter valves it would cinch the deal. ;)

Larry I think the bike will get a lot more attention now. You may want to post this on the other popular forum as well, vfrdiscussion.com. I wish you luck with everything.
