damn we got a lot of Devildogs on here!!!!!! OUTSTANDING!

Dahose, does someone make aftermarket LED brakelight setups for our bikes? I looked but nothing jumped out at me... I usually go to LED Lights, Bulbs & Accessories - SUPER BRIGHT LEDS and get my goodies there... looks like I need to do a better job on the google device if they are out there... where do you guys find most of your aftermarket stuff?

Yeah, ebay is a good place to look for oddball items. Even if you don't buy, you can sort of find out what they items are commonly called and ask local vendors if they can get the product. I always prefer to keep my business local, but I also have no qualms about buying online from someone who has EXACTLY what I need, when I need it.

My bike had the taillight when I bought it and it looks factory. You will need to buy an extra pulser to make it modulate when you step on the brake. Below is a link to the one in my bike. It works great and wires in nice and easy. No relation to the seller, just happy with what is in my ride.

Started tearing her apart this weekend:

-Air Filter is BLACK and DUSTY.
-replaced the battery - found the stock Rectifier. Checked the wiring - looked a little brown but not too bad, ordered a new rectifier, I'm not even gonna play with it. I'm a wiring guy from way back, so I'll probably rewire it if I need to.... but definitely going to look at the VFRness.
-Gonna change the oil even if he changed it right before he parked it...
-tires are shot. Pilot Road 2 front and rear.
-bulbs are those slide in jammies... weird. might go LED and swap out the relay for turns.
-chain is crusty black... gonna soak it up but will probably replace it. sprockets are nice, no shark fins, I think she's been babied.
-need to clean and lube the cables.
-bled the brakes... WHAT A PAIN IN THE ASS THAT WAS... thanks to the vfrworld posts, I only spent 20 minutes trying to figure out what I was doing wrong (I started working BEFORE I checked the posts after 20 minutes of "why the fsck isn't this working..") So now I have a soup can full of BLACK brake fluid... there were some chunks of stuff in one of the reseviors, so I cleaned that out too.
-brake rotors look nice, no grooves. haven't checked the pads yet.

    GAS.... and oil...

I'm thinking of going the seafoam route... gently... seafoam the tank first, and change the oil so it has a known quantity/quality in there, then after I've ridden it for a while, toss some foam in the crankcase to do some cleaning and then change the oil after a hundred miles or so.

    thoughts? anyone here use seafoam?

Got the rectifier, some cabling, the air filter, the vfrness in the mail this week. Should have the air filter in, tank back on, wiring completed this weekend... Then I am going to change the oil, seafoam the gas and maybe the crankcase, then change the oil again.

Chain should be here by next week, tires will be ordered this weekend and some PR2's will be on within 2 weeks... then lets see... comfort items: Sargent seat with the red trim and some Heli risers...

and by then I should be healed up enough to put some real miles on her! :chaingun:

wow. less than a quart of antifreeze in her. :/ flushed and filled that.
Spark plugs swapped out easy, oil changed after running a little seafoam through her for a quick spin around the block a few times. brakes seem ok... except the foot pedal doesn't do SHIT for braking... :/ musta let some air in there or something when I was swapping out the brake fluid.

Check your hose clamps for small dribble leaks once you get her filled with coolant again, usually a 1/4 turn or so of the hose clamp bolt will tighten it up again and stop the leak. Linked brakes are a major pain in the ass to bleed, follow the book procedure letter for letter and use some sort of vacuum bleeder to do it. I made the same mistake of not following the manual procedure when I bleed mine and had to do it again too.

tires should be in this week, so I'll probably spend tonite on the garage floor with my vacuum pump and the instructions on which order you bleed in... :/ Also feeling like the throttle cable needs lubed/tightened and the clutch play is a LOT different from my FZ8, but manageable. At least I got to do some figure 8's in the parking lot this weekend.

I never tried one. I always thought, "How do I know the whistle doesn't cause the deer to start running towards me being startled from munching his grass?" I just picture Bambi sitting there in the ditch beside the road, then along comes me whistling up a storm, she bolts and BAM, deer stew for 3 weeks and 3 months of rehab.

hell, you would think a Goldwing wouldn't even hiccup when hitting a deer. A moose maybe.

I find dropping a gear and laying on the horn tends to make them run, really fast, back into the woods, or at least away from the road. I also like to do this well before the point of intersection so as to have time to react if they decide, instead, to come investigate the noise.

I took her out on the bologna skins this weekend doing some figure 8's in the parking lot and some racing around the block to get used to ride, and check out my brake work (needed more work ;) ) She steers a little heavier than my FZ8, but I want to feel the lower grips and stock seat prior to upgrading those... my wrist is still less than full strength so commuting isn't high on my priority list yet.

Got all my wiring together for the rectifier replacement. with only 20k on the bike, I'm thinking the guys who owned it before me didn't ride it long enough or hard enough to wear out the rectifier yet, so I'm gonna do a preemptive strike and do a super clean replacement... just wish the yellow wiring coming out of the regulator was of thicker wiring. The plug is only slightly yellowed, but the wiring going into the rectifier is like 16 at least and there is some electrical weirdness when you change gauge halfway down the run.

    Tires on friday. (PR2's)

New chain on there, and now I'm talking to a body shop to get the sunfade freshened up on the fairings... :)
