Do we know that is done by every manufacturer, specifically Honda & our VFRs?

I have been reading this topic with great interest. I just bought my first VFR and it is still in the crate at the dealers, waiting for spring. It just seems to make sense to follow the manufactures instructions, but I have heard that there can be a great deal of metal floating around in the engine. It makes sense to change the oil several times in the beginning. More than the recommended times, but to beat a brand new engine just seems wrong to me. Are there more people out there with hard proof that this works?

    Thanks

Not sure this is right or not, but a BMW mechanic once told me that oil changes are done much too frequently, cars at 3000 miles are much too soon because it takes atleast that long for the oil to break down enough to gain it's most effect in regards to viscosity, etc. He said BMW cars are never get routine oil changes and only get changed when the oil sensors determines the viscosity, etc requires it - often at 15K - 20K miles. I'm not sure this holds the same with bikes, but the physics/chemistry are all the same. So now what???

All I know or sure is that I rode my bike home and did an oil and filter change on it that day. The spedometer was at 44kms and there was a lot a metal in the oil. Like grains of sand. I'm going to change it frequently for the first 1000kms.
