Is there any tip-over protection accessories?

I guess maybe I will try to just avoid droping it. That would take care of the issue

There are some that do and some that don't and some that almost do and don't too. The best thing is to find some that do both. I got this advice from a guy who did both.

After having a chance to ride and push the VFR a little it seems down right light. I guess it all depends on your frame of reference. Compared to moving my ST around the VFR feels like a scooter.

Yes if you have the hard panniers on, and drop the bike, they will take the beating, but without front crash bungs the front fairing will also hit the deck. The mirrors are also made of fairly soft aluminium so they can snap off if you drop the bike.

Suggestions mirrors - loosen off and then carefully retighten the allen key pinch bolt so that it is only just tight enough to keep it in place, but still easy to push around. That way you stand a fair chance that it will simply rotate around the pinch bolt rather than snapping. Over this side of the pond you can also get R&G race standard protection kits for a VFR which come with a custom made replacement for the coolant bottle. You will have to modify the fairing (cut a hole) to fit the crash bungs, but they mount driectly to the frame and offer some heavy duty protection not just for a tip over but can help if your bike goes sliding down the road.

You can also get scratch protection film to help prevent more minor scuffs. You may want to check out two recent threads which raised similar issues:-

http://vfrworld.com/forums/general-vfr-discussions/36908-byebye-harley-helloooooo-vfr800-intro.html - You may want to contact the guy as he may still have a lowering kit just for you...

+1 for R&G slider kit, saved my bacon for sure. I can also attest to the fact that the OEM bags can take a hell of a beating as they were also on when I dropped my bike on concrete, not a crack or broken part, good scuffs though  You may want to check out this thread as well

I was looking at my old post and never saw anyone mention what breaks on the VFR when dropped. I'm sure I could find out the hard way! Now, I'm just talking a parking lot type drop. Not skidding down the highway. I wonder if the $200+ dollars for frame sliders is more than what it would cost to replace the damaged parts. I don't particularly like the looks of frame sliders, but, maybe the cost of repairs would be worth it to invest in a set.

Nothing like your ST's break-away mirrors and re-moveable repairable lower fairing winglett things but the body work does a decent job saving the bike. Colour-Rite paint cost me $150.00 and that was enough to paint the entire bike. My bike has seen the tarmac on both sides more than a few times and I was always able to ride home. They were crashes that were fast enough where if you didnt have leathers on you woulda been in the burn ward of the hospital. My VFR is a beauty queen now and dont get ridden in that envirnment anymore, mainly cause everything is flat here  and I can get my rocks off at the local go-cart track on mini-racers.

Me personally, I dont care for cutting into body work for frame sliders/pucks. Plus if the bike is involved in a sliding accident, one of those pucks can lift the bike and get it careening which is bad from a wallet point of view. I would not scoff at repairing a bike that took a slide down the road (provided that it didnt go into a guard rail or curb) ones that go head over heels are another story.
