Thanks for the reviews ! Now I just need to narrow down the year. I've rulled out the 750's (hard to find a low milage rig and since I do hit some high passes at 9K elevation FI adjusts with more power) and the 1200's are pricey (and must be heavier). So it's an 800 for me. But what year? I don't want ABS. I'll learn more and dial it in. There sure are a lot of 07's out there..why? I remember Honda importing a bunch of these, which kept the price low in 07. Plus, they dropped the switchover RPM on the VTECH on 07. Looks like all viffers are fine rigs.

If you can find an ABS model at a good price you would be silly not to buy it. Why wouldn't you want superior technology?!

There are a lot of New 07s available under 7k nothing is wrong with them. The VFR was just suffering sales about that time because everyone wanted a cbr etc. It is funny just how many people look my bike over and fall in love with it only to get off of it and say.. "I love it cool bike, I'm probably gonna get a cbr600" . The VTEC kicks n at 6800 rpms on my 06. It is solenoid oil pressure driven so it is about 6800rpms

Look at 2004 up. I believe that the rectifier harness was upgraded that year. So you won't have to deal with rectifier failure. I may be off and it may have been the 05 where the correction came from factory. The harness is like $65 so dont thet that make yo pass up on an awesome deal.

You can pick up 04-06 in the 4-6k range. If you have the funds take a look at a brand new 07. You get the cheap price and a new bike.

Things to think about. Tires(age mileage), chain health around 16k (I've changed mine at 16k and now again that I'm at 32k) plugs around 16k ( inspection time but replacement usually not needed) $40 will get you some new iridium plugs. Valve inspection at 16k (but they sually dont need any adjustment at this point and many people forego this check since it is quite expensive unless you can do it yourself), Battery. Others will have more info and some may even disagree with this list.

All just have a cost associated. None should prevent a purchase but when looking at used bikes could help you with price and or negotiation

The poop from "Wire My Bike" is right on. They did what Honda wouldn't own up to or fix. Proud owner four of them puppies from Father Honda in the sky.. One is under my seat in it's bubble wrap waiting for the day when my otherwise trusty 91 craps out again.
