Test-rode a new VFR800F DLX today and liked it, but am wondering if any of you have done a nice job with an iPhone6 mount somewere on or near the dash.

I have a Ram mount now on my adventure bike, the one I'll sell to get a new VFR, the mount in three segments: the 4-point spring grip that holds the phone, the stem that clamps to the RAM ball at the back of the grip base and the handlebar ball, and the handlebar ball that U-clamps to the handlebar.

Is there some kind of phone mount that fixes to the center of the top of the stem, that puts the phone right there centered in front of the dash?

Show us your setup and describe the kit that does the job, including source info.

    Thanks.

There was a post a few weeks back that I did that shows a center stem mount. Do a search and if you can't find it I'll dig it up after I finish work.

Not quite as the one in your photo has a tendency to come lose. The one I have is actually not listed under the motorcycle categories on Ram Mounts' website. In this photo I have the stem mount with a small arm, a locking knob and the "X-Grip" phone holder. Note that right now Ram Mount has a 10% off sale until June 30th. Use the promo code summer2016. Note that it is sometimes still cheaper to use places like Revzilla for some items as Ram Mount charges shipping regardless of how much you order.

I cannot find that stem ball thing anywhere. Even at the main Ram site.

But I do see this, which might be really interesting. Ram sells two sizes and I would bet one would fit the tank ring.

I already own a middle clamp part and the x-grip part.

Baaaaad luck with that x-grip for me. The way it is made allows it to rotate some...,and my phone will fall out down road. Fan of Ram Mount but not that thing. YMMV

I have one and the only time it's given me pause is when I didn't have the phone in right. I watched a guy crash his CBR600 with his iPhone in the X-Grip mount and his phone didn't budge and he went down kinda hard.
There is a silicone strap that goes with the X-Grip and it is an extra layer of protection for the phone. You could drop it from a plane and it won't come out with that holding along with the X-Grip.

Thanks lint. Yeah, silicone strap did not come with mine. I would feel better if I had that thing, however, it still would be rotating which annoyed me. I really wish there was a way to make it stop that. A position lock of some sort. I read reviews after i got it , and several other peeps had that issue as well.

No problem mate, iirc was the same when I first looked, sent an email and the guy was brilliant, even called me when I emailed a question about the power socket I purchased at the same time.

Let me know if you want any more pics, off the bike, phone in case, component parts etc.

Probably a good thing that the phone falls oot of this gadget. Makes texting at the ton (metric or otherwise) harder to do. I always see stuff at WalMart that I didn't write down anyway.

For the record Stuka, the x-grip on my 6 Gen is mounted so that the phone sits vertically and I have not had any problems, even after several hundred miles.

Could depend on phone cases as well I suppose. TPU vs polycarbonate. Bottom line. I have tried it, the iPhone6 model, and my phone starts to fall out after major bumps and/or road vibration. I have as much faith with it holding my $700 dollar phone as I do with a politician spending my tax dollars wisely.

My iPhone 6 is in a waterproof case, the case being a lot more grippy than the sleek phone case. It is the TPU grippy-ness that makes me confident that phone is not in danger of flying away. I've been using the x-grip now for 8,000 miles.

Preventing the rotation can be done by simply placing a rubber band on one of the arms and securing it to the mounting base or arm.

I clicked the right link and now see the straight socket-mount Ram product. Thanks.

I'll consider it as well as the tank-ring thing.

A guy did a You-Tube video of that socket mount and showed how he used a bicycle grip to shim his stem cylinder. Does the Ram part fit pretty nicely to the VFR cylinder, or is a soft tubular shim a good idea?
