Welcome Karen. There is most assuredly some great riding in the Smokey Mountains. Not only there but most of east Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia. I rode my V-Strom around there for a week last year, and it is great. Pix are Here.

    Enjoy the forum.

welcome to the site. I live in SLO county and have been thinking of riding the bike over to Vegas before too long. I'm not sure which route you were planning, but even in the cage I make it in about 6.5 hrs. One thing, is lane splitting legal in NV? I ask because the traffic always seems to clog up when I'm leaving Vegas and lane splitting sure would be welcome in that heat if I'm on the bike.

I've always wanted to check out NM and CO, so when I do, I'll let you know. The heat here really isn't bad. I'm cold anyway... typical female, so the heat is welcome. I put on my mesh jacket and stay fairly cool. We do most weekend rides early and are back before noon. If you're ever out in Vegas, let me know.

Nice Pics. Almost bought a V-Strom too! That's cool that they have a motorcycle resort. I guess that place is so popular it just makes sense.

Oh, didn't think about the route... I just remembered when I have ridden from San Jose to Vegas it was about 10 hours. SLO is quite a bit further south... 6.5 hours is definitely more doable. Next time there's a meetup in SLO, I just might make it... thanks for the tip.

Lane splitting is NOT legal in NV. However, I do it quite often. I just take a good look around to make sure there are no cops, and when I do it, I am reasonable, as opposed to some of the crazy lane splitting I used to do in CA. I figure if I get pulled over, I would tell the copy I was feeling overheated, didn't think it would be safe for me to continue standing in the sun, and felt it was safer for me to lane split instead of passing out. I've never been snagged, so have never had to use the excuse, so I can't tell you if it would work. I CAN tell you I did not get a ticket when being pulled over on my SV for doing 90 in a 65, because when the cop came over yelling at me "DO YOU KNOW WHY WE PULLED YOU OVER?" I smiled and said, "Heck yeah, I was doing about 90". He visibly stopped, stuttered and said, "Uh, yeah, we clocked you doing 89". He checked my record, then told me I was clean, he appreciated my honesty and said they had drunks to catch at that time of the morning (2am) so didn't want to waste their time writing me a ticket.

Anyway, you coming to Vegas for business or pleasure? If you have riding time, let me know, I'll ride with you, and can take you to some places outside Vegas that alot of people might not know about.

    Hello!
I'm new here as well and honestly, don't have my VFR yet... We're picking it up this weekend. I just couldn't wait any longer and decided to be a part of VFRWorld. I haven't done a whole lot street touring/riding, but I did, however, complete the Great Divide ride on a Suzuki Drzs. (with the stock seat too, ouch!)
Then I decided I wanted (needed) a machine that's a little more street worthy, and decided on the Viffer. I can't wait because this is my first real street bike!

You should see Jackson now. They have multiple $750K - $800K housing developments & one that has house ranging from $1 - $1.5 MILLION. Screw that, I would never pay that much money to live in any house. I can buy somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000 ACRES for that much in some states.

I recently found out I am vunerable for a "Non Volunteer" asignment to the Las Vegas area. This is a double edges sword. I would be out of NJ but I would have to give up flying the KC-10. Needless to say, I would like to stay at KWRI until I retire & then move. Being forced to moved against your will to a place you don't want to go to do a job you don't want to do sucks big time.

    KC-10 FE out...

Yeah, that would suck... but as a former Jersey resident, I can confidently say Vegas is way better, lifestyle-wise! I hope you get what you want in the long run.

Yes, I know what happened to Jackson. My parents still live in the house I grew up in and I go visit every now and then. We used to be surrounded by woods, farms, chicken coops, corn, etc. Now, it's all gone and they're surrounded by houses, people traffic, etc. So, sad.

Welcome... I am late to the thread. In fact, you and I have already chatted in the chat box.

Glad you picked up a VFR and it is even better you joined VFRW. THE folks here are great. Very hepful and there is no shortage of sarcasm.

    See ya round....
