I saw Mike Hailwood back in the late seventies make his comeback at the Isle of Man TT. That guy NEVER put his knee down. The neatest rider i ever saw. You could have put a penny on the racing line and he would have hit it every time. Needless to say ,he won.

More like falling off my platform disco shoes.....the cause of my first broken arm quite a few years ago. Probably more years than many here have experienced in their lives.

Hailwood was an amazing motorsportsman but I remember, also in the late seventies, a young American named Kenny Roberts that,OMG, put his knee down. Pretty sure the late, great Barry Sheene remembered young Kenny also!

I guess we could say these dudes just don't want to get their knees all dirty.

HD made a few of these bikes in the 1930's They were 500 CC thumpers and designated as CRC's . Not much has changed.. Super high compression ratios, long strokes, no brakes and some of them burn hot fuels.

In the new Cycle World they have an article about Greg Hancock..44 years young, still kicking ass and takin names.
Used to watch speedway racing at Ventura fair grounds....back in the 80's. Now that something every motorcyclist should experience atleast once

That is also the best example of "countersteering" a bike when they hit the corners.

4 cylinder smoker for the win! Well only one time, Roberts almost killed himself multiple times for that win. What a motor that was in road races too.

I think that quote has been sanitized by Yamaha in the interest of political correctness. KR is a very plain spoken guy and if memory serves, the original statement was blessed with at least one "colorful" adjective.

There is a Utube of him on the bike that was put up a few weeks back.

Speedway, again, if my memory banks are semi-intact. UK and Europe has parimutual betting on teams.

    Maybe even OZ too.

The races are four laps.. Notice the action on the starting "gate". There are two basic variations. The "gate" is raised on a large rubber band contraption or the "gate" is an elastic band that is let loose across the track. As seen the tracks are small.. A large venue is a quarter mile oval

The engines turn aboot six grand and the HP is 60 plus on a very light chassis.
