Side stand mod done, new chain roller and chain / sprockets install finished up.

    PXL_20240309_204400931.jpg

Eliminated the side stand rubber and bracket. Much cleaner in that area. Hated that stupid rubber foot. I do know what it's for... I'll take my chances.

    PXL_20240309_204405351.jpg

I also added some radius where the pivot bolt head contacts the spring arm and prevents it from deploying any farther when first flicked down. Now it goes well past vertical when toed down and will help prevent a parking mishap if not paying enough attention. Anyone who has put a Hawk on the side stand knows how much of cluster it is (was). I did this on my first Hawk build and it was a GREAT mod.

    PXL_20240309_204415608.jpg

I had the rear cowl off to reinforce the taillight mount tabs. The white taillight housing is kinda visible with the fender eliminator, so I took the opportunity to black it out.

    PXL_20240310_203425042.jpg

I also added a window in the panel that is usually clear for other markets to light the license plate.

Nice work! These side stands (to me anyway) never seem to be at the right angle......make me paranoid every time I use one...lol.....

The RC24/26 stands are not great either. I manipulate them with my boot and watch it when setting them down every time. They also don't age well at the pivot.

I've started removing the rubber and bracket on them as well so nothing weird happens setting them down at the last second.

I was told the rubber "foot" was to help both kick the kich stand up when rolling forward and pull the kick stand down for positive engagement. I hate the fookin thing and will address that on my next Hawk service. My carbs need syncing and most likely a full clutch rebuild, which I keep putting off. She just needs love. lol
Nice work as usual Capt. Super clean!

On a side stand note, I feel like my 750 length is too short (insert joke here). My 750 leans wayyyyy over what I feel comfortable with. It is leaned over so far you actually have to support the bike as if it is going down. :(

That is correct. But my rubber foot was actually rubbing the chain, and they way it kicked the stand forward but bent the foot over backwards was retarded. I've been living with my modded stand on my first Hawk for a couples years now it it is MUCH nicer. I will probably add some more radius on the spring arm on that one. This second one I did came out really good.

Your ass end is up quite a bit higher now, and even the shorter front end can't compensate in the middle where the stand is. My RC26 is similar, but maybe not as extreme as you describe. The stands also move / bend over time too. Every time I see somebody climb on and off of their bike with the side stand down I cringe.

When I had the 20K mile stand off the Hawk laying on the lift next to it's new 2K mile modded stand it was visually evident. The 2K stand was perfectly straight, the 22K one had a slight curve over the whole length. And that was just on a fairly lightweight Hawk. Imagine what a VFR can do to it over time.

"Every time I see somebody climb on and off of their bike with the side stand down I cringe."

Mine is the right side climb over the bike to get on while on the stand...lol
My other cringe is the person who gives the bike a fist full of revs and then throws it into 1st gear."Kaaachunk".. eeekk. poor bike.

These are the same people that put their car in park on a hill without the parking brake. roll-CLUNK. Then, when they go to take off later, they can barely get it out of park cuz there is such a load on it. CLUNK. Then bitch, "Why is it so hard? Stupid piece of shit."

Yeah, I meant using the left foot peg like a step stool.

Without even thinking about it, I slightly roll forward when snicking into first. Sometimes it's just a slight lunge that compresses the front suspension, but I get a little movement and I can really help that initial engagement and lessen the clunk.

    Like a motorcycle officer.

Can still stress the side stand unless you do that little hop that gets your left foot on the ground first. But that doesn't look as cool, does it?

    Thanks...will give that a try!

Funny how some do it and some don't.

I always wonder if something is either worn out or out of adjustment......

It's a characteristic of most motorcycle transmissions. But like you said, some do it more than others.

And some people's behavior will accentuate it. The same people I've noticed that slam the lever like they are stomping a cockroach.

My VFR and my MT-10 both make a good clunk when they drop into first yet my ST1300 does not. All run the same fully synthetic oil and I am moderately sympathetic and ensure the engines have run for a couple of minutes before heading off. I pop them into gear with the same kindness and gentleness that I don't reserve for cockroaches. All other wildlife (except houseflies and mosquitos) gets a free pass and a return to the wilderness.
