the 3 yellow wires from stator leading to the r/r are thinner than the ones on the r/r. is that normal?
will check r/r diodes and grounding and give you an update later. need to sleep

Might just be me, but I can't see what the attachment is.

Anyway, yes, it is "normal" that the 3 yellow wires from the stator are thinner than those on the R/R. This is actually part of the initial problem; Honda used cheap shit wiring resulting in continuous problems.

My suggestion (and many others would agree) would be to solder the 3 yellow wires from the stator to the R/R wires. It does not matter what order they are soldered together in. Soldering the wires will absolutely make a difference in efficiency and how long the replacement R/R lasts.

troubleshooting is a step by step process, not an exercise in brainstorming. Ideas confuse the issues. The next step is checking the ground. The results of that step will lead to the next one in the process. It's not even worth worrying about what the next step is until we know the results of this one.

You can make your own, it's highly recommended, it's heavier gauge wire and connections for the charging system, it's highly unlikely that it has anything to do with your no-start problem at this point.

I built my own and soldered everything in directly.

sorry for being a bit eager. i just want my bike to run the way i want it, and also my girlfriend will come visit me this november so im trying to find out what parts i need ( or might need ) so i could ask her to get it for me. she's from winston-salem,NC. i called up this MC parts store in manila and asked how much for 5th gen parts. ecm alone was 45,000 pesos ($1,200 and it has to be shipped from japan)

It's not likely that the ECU is faulty. Through methodical troubleshooting you can zero in on the root cause without buying parts just for the sake of buying parts. Working eBay units are substantially cheaper.

And if you believe that guy in te '98 upgrade question thread, then a European ECU is worth 10hp! /sarcasm
