I should have worn pants.

Yabut! Yours happened 5 miles away from home not 2 miles. So we don't care!

I can't honestly say that I am 100% ATGATT. For some of the shorter rides on an errand it may be jeans instead of the suit. Jacket, helmet, gloves and boots are constant though. About the only time I may ride my bike in shorts is maybe to drive it from the garage to the side of the house when I am designing new sawdust in the shop.

I crashed a scooter in high school and I was wearing shorts, tank top, flip flops and no helmet. The scooter got speed wobbles at about 35mph. I hit the ground and it hurt. I lot. For a Long Time.

Now, ATGATT regardless of where I'm going or how far. It takes the same amount of time to put on my leather riding pants as it does denim except I have substantially greater protection. I'm wrapped in leather every time I ride. MotoGP spec helmet. I've since been down with all the gear and I got up thinking FML, look at my bike. 'Nuff said.

I scrape folk up off the road after their pride and joy has been trashed. It's me who needs to be able to put a needle into midst of that gravel rash looking for a vein that hasn't been shredded in order to get some pain relief into you. Think of the poor nurses who have to listen to the screaming whilst they are trying to scrub out the ground in bits of stone. Your boss who will be a man down for a while until you are fit enough to return, if you ever get fit enough to return. Your family who have to go through the same suffering with you.

That one little decision could affect a lot of people.

Yes I will ride the mile to the shops in my jeans but any further out the village and it's full kit.

Your knee would be a nasty mess if you were wearing shorts or just jeans at the time, by the looks of that.
You would be lucky if it was only 1 surgery. ATGATT.

You make a very excellent point about the nurses, your boss and your family. Thank you. I imagine your job is pretty tough at times.

Good grief, this thread has brought back way to many O shiets that hurt moments, Thanks, just when I had those memory's up and outa the way in my mind. For your viewing pleasure, Here's an impact wound through CE armor in the shoulder of a riding jacket, from the Bambi incident. I'd hate to think if it was just a T shirt, or. OUCH!!

Only two kinds of riders - those who have burned their legs and those who are gonna... ;) haha Worse when you get burned while using your leg to keep the bike upright or worst, if/when you're stuck underneath it...

Medically, I would say the shoulder would sting at least a bit.

    Just looked up this gem for you;

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PYepQ9vsm0

Fink's first post reminded me of the American training videos we used to get for burn management, annoying American accent but never forgot the words,

    Burning stopped
    breathing maintained
    body examined

    Cool
    cover
    carry

    I've been there.

Lying in the state major trauma ward with major fracture (after highsiding my first blackbird) and having the nurses question why a big brave motorcyclist would want more morphine.

They did not withhold the morph, but did get a bit of humour at my expense. I could see the funny side. Sort of. Especially when the morph had kicked in.

Another time on a visit to ED, after falling off a wheelie bin (inappropriate to use one instead of a ladder apparently). I lay waiting for the x-ray results and realized I had to come up with a good acronym for my condition. I told them I had an STI (stupid traumatic injury) . We all got a laugh out of that one.

Working in the field you have to be able to see the funny side.

LOL - that reminds me what they say about golfers - those that have bad backs and those that are gonna have bad backs :witless:

Just snapped a fresh pic of my leg - it only hurts when I touch it now but it's still red:
