Back to topic? I wired my Zumo into the rear light without any issues ever whatsoever. It switches on when the ignition is on and asks to go to battery when ignition off. If you do nothing it then shuts down.

It's been on the bike for almost 2 years and I've had it on other bikes for 5 years before that and never had any problems with the Zumo.

And we do own a 2010 Prius, and its sat/nav still sucks compared to the 'old' Zumo. Love that car though, meep meep.

I think it uses the same crap horn the Honda does.

    Wow! ...just wow!!!

I commented on your youtube video, but I would be raising all kinds of hell with that dealership at every possible level. ...I can guarantee they would NOT sell or get any bikes in for service while I was there having words with them.

...if they don't replace every damaged bit on your bike, I'd be on the phone with Honda Canada ASAP!!!

Good luck, and I really hope they unscrew their mistakes and take care of you!!! :(

    OH MAN!

I think for starters, you may want to post the vid on all the VFR BBs, add the link to several Emails to Rocky Mountain and the Honda Canada websites. A search will tell you who actually owns the dealership. That is the person to talk to. Honda will not admit fault. That is not going to happen.. The closest they come to anything like that is a recall.

Not being familiar with the particular GPS you have, and if it is motorcycle specific, then the manufacturer likly will have installation directives.

Me? I'd have them in small claims court for the max amount.

Could be that there is something in play now. A pocketfull of Loonies says, Honda USA and Canada have "watchers" who monitor the various forums.

Expect some feedback also that will state that Rocky Mountain Honda is the next best thing to going to Heaven in a Ferrari.

Wow - is the only response to Rocky Mountain's efforts. All over the world, firms like Honda are looking for opportunities to drop dealers who damage their reputation, as there are plenty of other firms ready and wiling to take over the standing of a Honda Dealership.

I really do hope someone from Honda reads this whole thread and especially your YouTube post.

It seems some firms fail to realise that when it comes to working on a vehicle they have a duty of care. I can't believe they were happy to
hand a bike back to a customer with the fairing hanging loose. Their bodged repaid could eventually cause the fairing to rip loose at speed - and could easily kill you or others. Which seems pretty close to criminal stupidity!

Over in Europe my local Honda dealership in Thonon-les-Bains is brilliant - they always check each others work, so after any work is complete, someone else gives the bike a check-over and takes the bike out for a test ride - and they won't tollerate any bodged work, so I can't see why you should be expected to put up with worse service your side of the Pond.

Personally rather than posting on YouTube, I would send a hand written letter to Honda (not email - hand written stuff through the post is now so rare that it gets noticed) - explain you need them to do something to rectify the damage their approved agent has done to your VFR, and also ask them what they are going to do to make sure the dealer either ups their game or are dropped as a Honda Dealer. With luck they will also send you some beer tokens as compensation!

Responding promptly to calls and ensuring messages etc pass effectively within the dealership are basic management skills which anyone has a right to expect. Sadly for this dealership it seems they just don't care. Yes I am talking about people at the dealership potentially loosing their job - but their attitude totally stinks and unless/until they replace the management I doubt the service from that dealership will ever amount to much.

Sorry this stuff makes me so angry>>>

This is where we are so far....
I spoke to Honda.Ca customer service yesterday (Friday). They have spoken to the dealer who have admitted to doing this. I then had another phone call a little while later from another gentleman at Honda Canada. Honda Canada are pissed..... and you can tell. I was asked what I wanted and how they could resolve the situation. I was also told by the first Honda rep that this was 'damage control'. I told him that all I wanted was a new panel and for the panel to be 3M like the old one.
Today I went in to the dealer with the panel. First words went like this, 'we know who did it and we have dealt with it. Why did you put the video out there?' No apologies for what has happened, nothing. He then told me that Honda want the video pulled and they have removed it where they can. He then asked again why the video was put up. I informed him that I had spoken to the service centre and explained what I have found. The service centre said that they didn't understand what I meant and needed to see it. I posted the video so that they could see it.
Guys you need to understand.... this is my only form of transport. I do not have a car. It is either 60+mins and two bus rides or 15 mins on the bike. To get to the dealer it is $40 in a taxi each way. He didn't even offer me a loan bike until mine is ready again. The manager just sat at his desk and looked pissed at me. Didn't even offer me a seat! Shame.........

The dealer got bigtime shit from Honda USA and Honda Canada so its now your fault.. Don't buy a nickels worth. I hope you have the phone numbers of the bigwigs you spoke with. The reason is that your friendly dealer is going to stonewall you on the parts and anything else they can.

Remove the video? Yeah right! That my friend, is evidence. Offer to sell them some dupes..LOL

Doesnt matter why you put the video up..It was your right to do so. If they want it down they need to turn this bad experience around - and if this manager is too much an asshole to understand that then I hope the video stays up for more and more people to see. I cant believe he had such a bad attitude about it..He really should be kissing your ass right now before you turn him in again.

I see Badbilly and Michaels214 have pretty much beaten me to it. My thoughts exactly - so thanks!

What to do? Come on Honda its not difficult:-

    #1 APOLOGISE
#2 Fix the damn bike properly this time!
#3 Offer the dude some compensation for the crap he has had to put up with. Its his only transport!
#4 Tell the Prius expert to stick to fixing Prius cars.
#5 Close the dealership for a whole week whilst the ENTIRE management and staff attend a intensive customer service refresher course and learn about Honda values - of quality reliability and pride in doing the best in everything they do.
#6 Follow up by closely monitoring their quality through secret customer testing. Hopefully this will show the wake up call worked and they came back with the right sort of attitude! If not - just drop the dealership - you gave them a chance to mend their ways and they blew it!

Remember people are prepared to pay extra for a Honda because they know it's not going to let them down.

(I bet secretly other Honda dealers are baying for blood over the damage this rogue dealer has done to their shared reputation...)

PS - Keep the updates coming!

Hey VFR1200 has this been sorted yet?

Are you still being made to feel guilty for putting up that YouTube video showing people about the appaling service you received from a Honda dealership?

I agree with your tactics. I'm a big fan of natural, logical consequences. What you did made sense.

Curious...how did they find out about the video?

It's called "Customer Service"! Sounds like the dealership needs people with "people skills". Maybe Honda needs to start a training coarse on customer service and make it mandatory for all owners/managers to attend. That dealership sounds like the way they used to be around here. Where you should be honored to buy a bike or parts from them. "If you want it you'll have to buy from us because nobody else is around that sells what we have" attitude.

Stick with it. They owe you, you don't owe them anything at this point. I guess the dealership, as Jack says "You can't handle the truth!". May be your the first to stand up to them. Good job!!

This is why I won't take my motorcycle to the dealer. The techs have no idea how to work on this bike. The stupid asshole didn't even know how to get the fairings off.

I hooked up my own GPS with no trouble whatsoever. There's no need to run a wire back to the battery. Honda makes a fused switched accessory harness that fits right under the left side panel. Plug and play... takes minutes to install.

How embarassing that they would jury-rig it together like that. What a hackjob. If you ever need help or advice with your VFR1200 consult my blog or contact me. I'm happy to help.

BTW Rocky Honda is part of the Carter Group. They also own Canyon Creek Toyota and Jack Carter Chevrolet.
