Have owned a 84 VF1000Fe since 1986. Love the Bike.
Great Power, Looks Fast, Good Touring Posture, Sounds Great.
Was OffLine for about a Decade (I stayed home to bring up kids), but back in the Saddle.

Want the Bike to Live Forever, so have purchased 2 basket cases (84VF1000Fe and 85VF1000Ff) for parts.
    Also have another motor.
I'll be able to get a second one running this summer. The 3rd? maybe next year, depends on its condition.
    Aslo have a Cam issue,

So will be swapping some motors around this Spring.
I now ride less than before, but still get in around 7,000km/year.
Love the riding out West (Western USA & Kanada).
Been all over this Bike (DynaJet Kit, New Rear Shock, Manual Rad Fan Switch, GPS, Second Motor,,..).
Will be doing lotsa work on all 3 this Spring, so will try to pick some Brains for Tips (Setting Cams, getting Gaskets,,..).
Is there a VF1000F Compendium here? Thinking of building a small Library of Tips for this Bike (Central Location).
    Thanks.

Welcome to the World cowboy! I am actually heading out Calgary way in a week or so. Neighbour is getting a car lift/stacker delivered to Calgary to avoid provincial sales tax. I offered my truck out to go pick it up if he paid the fuel so it will be a very quick there and back.

Welcome back. 30th anniversary of this bike this year.
I ride mine only 2 weeks a year (too expensive to license in Quebec), using the VFR most of the time.

To satisfy my curiosity. What is the grey tube on the left (out of the engine V and close to the rad)?

Damn another Calgary rider. If you were around in 86-90 at bullshit corner and out at the Friday and Sat. drags you might remember the bright yellow 85 Interceptor that raced every once in a while. If you do that was me

    Welcome to the nut house..........

"To satisfy my curiosity. What is the grey tube on the left (out of the engine V and close to the rad)? "

Was wondering if anyone would notice that.
The jetting on this bike was Very Rich, and Not Adjustable.
Also the Air Intake was right behind the Upper Radiator, suckin Hot Air.
So I heated up a large Socket and pushed it thru the Lower Air Box plastic.
I ran some tubing from an IBM 3420 Tape Drive, to the outside/front to get some Cold Air, both sides.
It helped, but I had to do more.
In Colorado, going over a Pass in Rocky Mtn Park (over 12,000 feet), the Bike would barley idle under 3500RPM.
I installed a DynaJet Kit (Stage 1) to adjust the mixture. Learned a lot and it helped a lot (Highly Recommended).
Pulling and reinstalling Carbs in a V4 is awful though.
I also installed a little deflector plate on the Front Forks, right over the Brake Line Splitter, to deflect air up to the normal Air Intake and to help with the Large Turbulence behind the Fairing.
Bike always runs great, pulls strong now.
With an 18T Primary Sprocket (Stock = 17T), I can get 50MPG on Tour now.
I think I will delete the Side Air Tubes when I do a bunch of parts rotation this Spring.
With all the other Mods I've done, it should be fine.

I never made it to the Drags, so never saw your bike.
I did Drag there once, on Race Day, against a souped up FZR750, on my wimpy RZ350.
The Drag Club needed another bike to make it even numbers, so I figured it was a good chance to practice Starts.
Always got the Light, but he'd zoom by about 1/2 way down.
That's where I figure I damaged my Clutch Basket.
I did get my Racing License at the track in 1990 on my VF1000.
Too bad the track is now The City Dump. (progress?)
