Bought my VFR vtec in July.
    Born August 1940.
Booked up for Germany in May and Northern Spain and France in June.
Just Getting the bike ready for ACF50 treatments so I can ride through the winter.
Oh and I took up trail riding in May with a Honda CRF 230F.
While on a trail ride I met another bloke who looked older than me and it turns out he was 83 and had taken up trail riding a month earlier than me.
Its never too late to try something different.

1940? Are you sure that's not a typo?

64 and on my second VFR, first one was spontaneously compressed in PA on a day ride.
Been riding 44 years on many bikes, the VFR will never be sold.Been thinking of picking
up another Gen5 before they're all gone...maybe another red one to go with old yeller.

    No typo just fact.
Here's another that might make you think. My dad was in San Francisco in 1908 and joined up with the 29th Canadian Infantry, the Vancouver Regiment, in 1914. He was born in 1885.
My half brother is still playing golf at age 88. He was still playing rugby at 50.
We are a hardy lot in our family.
    Use it or lose it.

My Dad was just about 60 when he bought a Z1 in 1982. He was all bunged up with rheumatoid arthritis and could barely hold the bike up if it started to tip. In fact, he and my mom were riding two-up when he came to a stop sign on a country road with a bit of a crown and he slowly laid it over on its side. Some passerby helped him get it back up and my mom said, "Let's go home" to which my Dad replied, "We're going to finish our ride" and away they went for another hour or so. When he'd leave home on the bike you'd hear that kerker header roarin' as he opened it up heading down the road. He had been an old Harley rider back in the 40's and 50's but started to like Kawasaki when my cousin let him ride his H2. He bought the Z1 as a retirement toy and, despite his arthritis, he felt young again when on that bike.

I still ride that bike today. You're never too old. I would say, if you still have balance and the strength to ride, go for it. Just know your limitations. You can't ride as well as you did when you were 30. Riding will keep you young (unless it kills you ; )

For the VFR purists--there weren't any VFRs available in 1982

Here in the UK I would think most of the riders of larger motorcycles are aged 40+ with a good deal over 55.
AS I have said I'm 74 and contrary to what is said above believe I am a better and faster rider than I was in the past. This is due to an advanced riding course and belonging to the Institute of Advanced Motorcyclists.
Mates that I ride with most often are both aged 67. One ride a KTM 950 Adventure, an ex racer and can hustle that bike around like you wouldn't believe, the other rides a BMW K1200s and is equally as fast and until recently was an instructor at the Nurburgring.
When we stop at cafes on our Sunday rides we often comment on the age of the riders and conclude motorcycling in the UK will all but die leaving some riders commuting to work on small capacity bikes. Sad really.
On a lighter note, on my travels around the USA all 11,000 miles in two trips I find motorcycling to be alive and kicking. Keep it up you guys and ride till you drop.

Scary, this threads 5 year old, now I've just turned 50 like the original poster can answer:

As a 50 you are certainly not too old for a VFR I regularly do 450mile a day 3 to 4 day road trips on my ergo stock Gen 5 with a 58yro guy who rides a standard GSXR1000 without complaint.

    Yes, he was! My hero.

As far as the pic of my Z1, I'm not sure that's allowed on a Viffer forum and I've not tried to post a pic before, but here goes...

    IndianaTrip 014.jpg

If that didn't work, I'll try again after I've read up on it.
