I have a Sargent seat and Convertibars that are a little over 3 inches higher than stock. They are multi-adjustable for grip angle, width and height. The seat is flatter than stock which helps keep your important parts from the dreaded tank squish.

Yes it is in the hands, while going 75+ I don't notice it...now when I get in town my hands kill me. I did have gloves on, it does seem to be more pronounced with the gloves.

thanks for all the replies :cool-new:

I just acquired a 2004 VFR 800A. Between hand and shoulder surgeries I have ridden it 28 miles. Later.

    I'm 74.

I have a lot of trouble with my hands getting fatigued, my right hand in particular, when wearing my winter gloves. I tend to grip the bars tighter because of the padding and so my hands get tired. The throttle lock helps.

Just saw this thread. Been on VFRs since the 1st one (1983 VF 750F). I have had a 1st gen (~70k miles), a 1992 3rd gen (~190,000 miles), and now a 2000 5th gen @ 25k miles and going strong. I am 56 and soon to be 57. Do I corner carve like I used to? Not so much. But, I still love to ride a VFR. Truly an amazing bike IMHO.

Bought a 6th gen back in June 2013 just after my 56th birthday. I need a do it all bike and the VFR more than meets that requirement. It replaced an sv650s, a fantastic bike but not so comfy for touring of carrying s pillion.

I'm 59. Started at 16. Also have a Goldwing for 2-up riding. My vfr has vf1000f bars and a Corbin seat for comfort.

I started at 16 too. Bikes have brought me many happy times over the years including a wife from the isle of man.

Turned 61 a month ago and have two 5th Gen VFR's, a '98 and a '99. Have owned the '99 since 2005 and put almost 50k miles on it. Stumbled across a'98 last September with only 20k at a scorchin' price. So I'm doing all the 48k maintenance on the '99 (ok, a little late but better than never. Trust me, this bike has been probably over-maintained) and putting it up for sale in a few days.
Every time I think about getting a newer bike I just go for a ride and end up saying to myself; self, you don't need any more motorcycle than this (and the ST1300 that sits next to it in the garage). So I'll end up with a lower mileage VFR and after letting go of the first one will break even or even make a few bucks. It was a no-brainer decision. Still, the '99 runs absolutely perfect and gets lots of compliments.

Out riding, mostly in West Marin County, I've run into other 5th gen owners that are older than me and far more radical riders. Not a single one of them would consider getting rid of their bike, however I have met several people that regret getting rid of theirs. Guess that's why not many of them come up for sale . . .

It's ok to appreciate other bikes, but there will always be a VFR in my garage

Hi and welcome to the MadHouse:welcome:

It seems we have a few new arrivals on the forum starting with a post here - which is brilliant as 6th Gens are great bikes - but when you get a chance swing by the "Introductions" forum to say hello to everyone else and tell us a bit about you and show a picture or two of your VFR.

It always takes time to find your way around a new forum so I suggest you start by scrolling way down the home page where you will find the main sub-forums and plenty of useful stuff like links to online service manuals and plenty of threads showing how to fix things or install mods like heated grips.

It is also worth updating your forum profile ("My profile" tab at the top of the page) to include the bike specs and a rough location - city/county is fine, that way if you need help with something people will know roughly where you are and just may be willing to swing by and offer help/advice in exchange for some beer tokens.

Take care - and add some photos soon or some folks on here will start ragging on you!
