And then there are those who just have to have GP-shift pattern on their bike - 25-year old habits die hard - and this makes a 3-minute job a 30-minute one.

I removed the Sato reverse shift part so I could access the connectors right behind the frame beam alright and I removed the plastic gear selector shaft because it's the perfect protection against the elements for the module. So I zip-tied that to a frame part, a piece of tubing.
The masking tape is there to get the correct gear lever position back fast.

Now then for the results: the bike now runs like a normal bike of this capacity. No more "no-one at home" moments coming out of slow corners, being overtaken if not blown away by any 1050 Triple, just drive where you need it, when you need it.

I'm no wheelie master and the 2nd gear is one I use a lot when filtering. And filtering (lane splitting) is what I do a lot! The added 65 hp@5000 rpm (!) makes little difference when filtering. No fool is going to whack open the throttle when he sees a small gap. Same goes for exiting a corner: when before you fed in the power and then at 6k rpm all hell broke loose, you can now feed in the power gradually and drive safely (and faster) out of corners with the two limitations being your skill and the ride-by-wire. The latter acts like the old CV carbs: you don't get any more fuel than you require.

Riding in torrential conditions makes no difference to me. Like said before, just feed in the power and remember you have lots of it.

My humble opinion: is this restriction a safety feature on the Honda?
    NO!
There's nothing safe about a bike this powerful behaving like a two-stroke.

Is the Bazzaz Z-Bomb worth the money? You betcha. If you want to splice the wires to save a total of $85 shipping to Europe included then by all means do so. If not and you're not in the USA, get a friend to order it for you and send it on.

The gear indicator doesn't bother me. Don't use it much anyway, I never even look at the neutral light. Force of habit I guess.
