lets see....first I shut the bike off ...
    drop the key .
    pick up the key..
    drop the glove..............
pick up glove and open gas cap.......
prop helmet up on top of head.........
try and catch helmet before it hits the ground with foot leg ...
watch helmet roll off of foot into on coming traffic..
    put nozzle in fillhole...
redo transaction because all the monkey fuk grabassin around without pumping gas reset the system
    rehang nozzle
    reinsert card
    pull card
select fuel place nozzle into tank
    hold back the sleeve back
carefully remove nozzle from tank and make sure nothing is dripped on
if it does get dripped on I wipe it up and don't really worry about it...the paint job sucks and its just there intill I get ready to paint it for real

I stay seated on the bike, flip up my helmet, take off my gloves and drop one of them, get out my credit card and lean over to insert it at the pump, then put it away somewhere and can't find it the next time I need to fill up, slide the magnetic tank bag to the side, lift the gas cap, and fill up. I hold my hand under the nozzle as I return it to the pump so it doesn't drip on the tank. If I get gas on my hand, I wipe it on my brother's back while he's filling up. He thinks I'm just being brotherly and patting him on the back. This method works well.

I have on two occasions somehow lost control of the nozzle and spilled gas on the tank while filling it. I thought I'd go up in flames as the fuel hit hot parts on the bike, but so far no problem. So, since I seem to have to learn most things the hard way, I'll continue this method until the day I become a human fireball. Should make for a fun YouTube video.

Okay, how many of you guys have dumped gas all over the place because you were looking at some incredible "cans" on the pump opposite you?

    Go4,

Your friend is an idiot and so are you for asking these questions on VFRW.

But since you asked, when I get some gas on my tank you know what I do? Nothing brother because a 1997 VFR is NOT a $90,000 dollar Ducati Desmocedici. I say "opps" wipe it off with my glove or a paper towel if the the gas station has one right beside the pump and move on with my day.

Dude, I know your a nice guy because we've chatted on the phone. But I have to say you are seriously bringing VFRW's intellegence down to fucking kindergarden with these questions.

    Happy Thanksgiving all.

actually liquid gasoline is not very explosive. you can set a pale of gas on fire and it will slowly burn off giving light.

    Bubba,

I feel the need to stick up for gopher just a little on this filling the tank issue. Recall that just a couple of months ago the gopher was croaking about how good a paint job he could do with a rattlecan. Also please attempt to refrain from using those big fucking Italian words with him. TIA.

May the triptophan in your turkey give you pleasant dreams..;)

Well, since you asked lets start at the beginning:

Petroleum is found in porous rock formations in the upper strata of some areas of the Earth's crust. There is also petroleum in oil sands (tar sands). Known reserves of petroleum are typically estimated at around 190 km3 (1.2 trillion (short scale) barrels) without oil sands,[9] or 595 km3 (3.74 trillion barrels) with oil sands.[10] Consumption is currently around 84 million barrels (13.4×10^6 m3) per day, or 4.9 km3 per year. Because the energy return over energy invested (EROEI) ratio of oil is constantly falling (due to physical phenomena such as residual oil saturation, and the economic factor of rising marginal extraction costs), recoverable oil reserves are significantly less than total oil in place.[citation needed] At current consumption levels, and assuming that oil will be consumed only from reservoirs, known recoverable reserves would be gone around 2039,[citation needed] potentially leading to a global energy crisis. However, to date discoveries of new oil reserves have more than matched increased usage. In addition, there are factors which may extend or reduce this estimate, including the increasing demand for petroleum in developing nations, particularly China and India; further new discoveries; increased economic viability of recoveries from more difficult to exploit sources; energy conservation and use of alternative energy sources; and new economically viable exploitation of unconventional oil sources.

Now for a bit of the refining process:

The alkanes from pentane (C5H12) to octane (C8H18) are refined into gasoline (petrol), the ones from nonane (C9H20) to hexadecane (C16H34) into diesel fuel and kerosene (primary component of many types of jet fuel), and the ones from hexadecane upwards into fuel oil and lubricating oil. At the heavier end of the range, paraffin wax is an alkane with approximately 25 carbon atoms, while asphalt has 35 and up, although these are usually cracked by modern refineries into more valuable products. The shortest molecules, those with four or fewer carbon atoms, are in a gaseous state at room temperature. They are the petroleum gases. Depending on demand and the cost of recovery, these gases are either flared off, sold as liquified petroleum gas under pressure, or used to power the refinery's own burners. During the winter, Butane (C4H10), is blended into the gasoline pool at high rates, because butane's high vapor pressure assists with cold starts. Liquified under pressure slightly above atmospheric, it is best known for powering cigarette lighters, but it is also a main fuel source for many developing countries. Propane can be liquified under modest pressure, and is consumed for just about every application relying on petroleum for energy, from cooking to heating to transportation

As you can clearly see, much is involved before you even see gas at the pump.

But generally speaking, and of course you may find distinct differences depending upon your experience level, it works thusly:

There is a big hole in the top of your tank, put the nozzle from the pump there and press the lever until you've had enough or you run out of money.

DO NOT press the lever with the nozzle laying either on the ground or while holding it over your head, you may be tempted to do this, but its just not wise and leads to trouble.

Dont be tempted to put the nozzle in any holes other than the one on top of your tank, again, just leads to trouble.

Dont put the nozzle in the trash can by the pump island or in the paper towel dispenser.

Dont point the nozzle at your or anyone elses's face.

There is no need to remove the seat and attempt to fill that area up with gas.

Dont put the nozzle in your pocket or down your pants like a gunfighter.

As you can see from the chemical make up described earlier, gas blows up real easy and creates monster fricking fireballs like in the movies and shit, if you smoke, you should leave your cigarette in the other hand from the one with the nozzle.

    Hope this helps.

Gopher told me confidentially that his SO loves him to f*ck her in the ear. I asked him how he knew this. He said it was because every time he tried to put it in her mouth, she turned her head. At least I think he said it was a "her".

You're kidding, right? SO = Significant Other. Perhaps you use the nomenclature "ho"?
