Did the Honda shop in Petaluma check the R/R? All this multimeter crap whilst on the bike is eyewash. Bench test em to see if they pass current.

I heard about a harleydood that went through about the same thing. He took his wife's bike, sold her off to some other harleydoods and continued on.

Twowheelvinyl is owned by Trip the admin of TwoWheelFix, my regular forum. Good guy and good product. A bunch of members use them. It's funny to see TWV on another forum. I had to doubletake and look up to see which forum I was on again. Here is a pretty good view of what Hotbrakes is talking about. One member has his map completely filled up, but I can't find his picture...

Hotbrakes - great story, keep us posted! Coupla state parks just north of you. When life gives you lemons, things are still good if you know how to make lemonade.

    Anybody got butter?

A Ricks stator should be arriving shortly putting us back on the road this afternoon.

This town is wonderful, amazing roads in every direction, although they are hard to enjoy with all the scenery. Yesterday we hiked around looking at the big trees and walked a couple miles to the beach to watch the sunset. This could become our new regular vacation spot.

1 - to avoid having this happen on a road trip, although hotbrakes certainly made the best of it.

2 - I've had a lot of bikes over the last 25 years, including several honda street bikes, and have never heard of a stator-rotor problem like this. It's a legit question: does my '07 have a crappy oem stator-rotor that should be upgraded now to avoid future headaches, or does it have a newer version from the factory that is less prone to eventual catastrophic failure? If there is a newer oem version, what year did Honda start using it in the factory?

    Thx.

Looks like 06 and up has a larger stator and rotor. In fact, Ricks only makes stators for the 02-05, not 06 and up. So an 07 should be good with the upgraded components.

Once you get the bike running, if you can, take the road from Fort Bragg to Willits, it's one of the great ones.

Okay, Cutter and Brakes both say the '06 and up have the bigger stator/rotor, but Randy's '06 still burned one up. Randy also has a ton of miles.

Best bet is prolly to change it at 50K or maybe 60K, and not worry about it.

    Thx.

Is the stator hard to get at. I haven't a clue. But if it is easy to look at, then my all means take a look occasionally to see what it looks like. I doubt that they burn up suddenly, and they should start at some time to show signs of burning out. Then of course, change it out before embarking on a long trip. I suppose that will be something I will consider before my next trip which I expect to be some 15,000 miles give or take. That if all things go well, the moon and stars line up, and Luxembourg does not declare war on the UFRR.

This of course is quite a dream. I can only hope I can do some of it

Don't forget the most beautiful states, Colorado and Utah.

The stator is probably fine until it goes, then it goes quick. It is located behind the left engine cover, draining the oil is necessary for inspection. Other indicators of impending(ed) doom are the connections under the right fairing going to the R/R. Checking voltage at a few key spots would be the easiest way to confirm a rapidly approaching problem.

So far she's running well, surprisingly the R/R checked out ok.

I would do every state if I could but that just isn't realistic. Shit, I would be on the road for three years. As it is, this trip will likely be more than three months.
