Group ride and BBQ in michigan.

Are you planning on hitting the tunnel of trees? I'm in Holland and might be able to make it depending on my work schedule. The midnight ride from Rockford to Mackinac is going to be the third Sat. in August as well.

 

that sounds like fun. where about is it?

 

The Tunnel of Trees runs up M-119 from Petoskey to the north. I have never been there but have talked to a few people that have and they said it is completely amazing and an awesome ride. Something to think about anyway.

 

this is what im thinking, though i dono if i can be there being that i need a stator or rr.

1. start at oalkand drive and i94 (there is a carpool lot there)
2. from there head 94 to 131 and go north up to m89 through allegan then to holland via m40 then us31.
3. then we will head up the shorline on us 31.
4. stop at manistee for food
5. continue up us31 to petoskey and harbor springs.
6. from there we will take a joyous ride through the tunnel of trees and maybe end up in mackinaw city.

6.5 hours of riding. i would assume leaving kalamazoo at around noon.

Think I'm gonna cry...

 

I'm still not sure what my work schedule is going to be but now that my wife is working the weekends are the only time we get to see each other. More than likely I am out but if things work out I would like to meet whoever shows up in Holland when you come through here.

 

Well if anyone is going to meet up, or will possible meet up please let me know so i can figure out when we will be where you will be meeting. that way noone will have to sit around for a couple hours waiting on us.

i figure we will bbq just before hitting the tunnel of trees. everyone will be there by then and itl be around dinner time. and my grill will be there at that time.

i also plan on spending the night at a hotel in macanaw, or around there. possible checking out the bridge the next morning.

, oh, and if you havent figured it out im planning on pennying up for a new R.R. so ic an go.

 

Where are you getting the R/R from?

i may have to get a new one in a year or so, but itl save me 70 bucks for now.

Edite: 60-70 bucks shipped. vs 115 - 150 before shipping elseware. or 225 from honda.

 

I know the feeling. I replaced the R/R on mine 2 yrs ago. Thankfully I have a friend that works at M&M. It was still costly but it was Honda parts.

 

well i really want to go on this ride with everyone so its worth it for the moment. even if i do have to cary a fire extenguisher with me., might be good anyway, might cover up some of my missing fairing

 

I would love to go also but I really don't see it happening this time. I love my wife working but it was easier socially when she didn't work.

 

i feel ya. my wife works aswell so its hard for us to spend alot of time together.

maybe next year you can come down to north ca with me to the dragons tail. 314ish turns in 11 miles.

 

I would like to try the Dragon once but I have a friend that used to live here in MI and moved to NC and he said there are much better roads close to him and in WV so don't bother with the Dragon. I might take him up on that sometime in the future. Like when I am retired and the kids have all moved out!! LOL

NO FREAKIN WAY, my insurance is still current. untill half way through september. if this r.r. fixes my bike i will actually get to go. IM FREAKIN GEEKED.

 

Man, I wish I could make it! Used to be from Northern IN - born in Gary, IN and lived in Valparaiso until I was 14. Have a good one and take lots of pics you post here for us jealous onlookers!
