Inner cover removed finally. When on the side stand it starts again dripping oil from somewhere in there.
So, it's back on the centerstand.
Got a friend coming over after a ride tomorrow.
He's better with this stuff than I am.
    Thank God for MBD. :boozer:

That's man made, but sure why not, I'll have an MGD.
But, I meant Multiple Bike Disorder.

Closer examination of the area around the front sprocket today. No apparent damage to the engine case. I think I am good there with a couple replacement covers, inner and outer, plus a gasket. Got a good look at the rear sprocket area, swingarm, axle, etc. Axle appears OK including the threads. Pulled that out along with the brake rotor and cleaned it up. Greased up the bearings which turned nicely. Looks like I just need a few replacement parts in addition to a chain and sprocket set and the further I go the more fixable it looks. Major props to my friend VFRCapnBob who came over after a ride and got his hands way dirty today. Doubtful I would have got here on my own. :yo:

Time to start a parts list I guess. :boobies4: 101_3481.jpg

Could have been a crash. Then for sure would have been a write off.

    Where does the time go?
Got a hold of a couple borrowed tools, finally got the old chain off today.
Realized I still have old hardened gasket material to remove from stuff.

It's called in too deep, down the slippery slope, past the point of no return, spent $Hunskis on parts.
I must make this F'ing VFR ride again! :hippie:

The person that comes up with a chain and sprockets that needs no maintenance and lasts a LONG time will be worshipped. I believe it can be done. I'll ask the right people.

The 4 bolts holding the brake disc and axle would not fucking come out.
Bought an air impact wrench from HF today. Should have got that sooner.
On to the next thing. Finally about ready to see if I can remember how it goes together. :witless:

Finally it lives! Got all the important stuff done today with some help. Need to put back fairing, lube chain, air tires etc.
But after sitting for 6 months, it fired right up. Size and a half hours in the garage going from feet to knees and back over and over.
I'm beat. Thank God for beer. :stung:

I hired a guy to help, would not have ever got done otherwise.
Almost ready to ride. Finished most fo the last details.
Took a test 2 laps, 1 mile, around the block today with no issues.
Just need to finish fixing the cracked fender. Need a piece of broken fairing for filler so I can finish plastic welding it.
But I think it is VFR ride time tomorrow.

It lives, and it rides at last. 160 miles today, reminds me why I like this old bike with > 80,000 miles. :vtr2:

As a bonus they filled up Castaic Lake in my honor. Or maybe it was all that rain.
Yeah, that might have been it. Good to get the thing back on the road and riding. :cool-new:
