On his R1 he has room to put it just above his lights, that's harder on the VFR. (Click the small R1 image to blow it up.)

I used to use tank mount, but too much dashboard in the way. So I'm at helmet mounting now, because I'm just not much of a mounting on the side of the fairings and there's no real place to mount to the front of the bike. Windscreen is too curved, air duct makes it hard and the headlights make it harder still.

However, you will get bugs. Just have to make sure to stop every so often to wipe them off.

I've toyed around with a couple of mounting options on mine... I use a helmet mount and seem to get pretty decent quality without much shake. I've got a sticky mount on top of my left pannier that does a pretty decent job with only minimal vibration on severely rough roads. I've tried my suction cup mount in a couple of spots with bad results. the best visual is on the top of the faring. But vibration is horrid. I may try a hard mount there and see if it improves. I'm toying with the idea of modifying my mirror spacers with a 1/4-20 tripod mount but haven't pulled the trigger yet on that.

I use a Sony Action Cam, but mounting a cam is mounting a cam !

I mad a right angle bracket which I mount between my left mirror and the fairing. I took the view that my mirrors are pretty stable so if I used the same mounting points all would be well with the world.

The flat plate above the bracket is an old camera/flash plate I had lurking around

I can easily reach the control button even when riding

by making the rear mounting hole of the right angle bracket slotted I am able to alter the horizontal angle to suit whatever I want and the left/right view is just a matter of loosening the camera mounting screw and re tightening it. My camera allows me to control it off my phone and use the phone as a monitor screen so setting up is easy.
There is a place on the housing to attach a lanyard which I fix around the mirror stem in case anything happens to the mount I know the camera will remain attached to the mirrot giving me time to stop without it ending up on the deck

So from looking at Carpy's Mirror mount I realized that I had some extra SS laying around and mimicked his mirror mount for the GoPro... Here's the test video that I shot this morning and while the vibration doesn't make it unwatchable it's still not where I want the quality to be... Any ideas from my esteemed VFRW brethren???

No sound or effects to the video I just did a hack job edit ti get it uploaded.

Vibration doesnt look at all bad. Couple of suggestions
Use thicker steel for the mount where it is on the mirror mounting point with a bigger platform for the camera to sit on.
Mount a piece of flat steel between the 2 mounting bolts one side of the front fender and bracket off that
Use one of the fairing bolts(I would use the one by your knee), use a piece of tube or a washer stack to give clearance for the fairing and bracket off there (obviously you will need a longer bolt)
Most other things places tend to be rubber mounted to stop things breaking
