Is green like organic or the other way around?

Cowshit is green at first until it fades.

Out of 11 bikes at my house, 7 of them are green. None have faded to brown. After thorough use, they are covered in mud.

    (Sorry to highjack the thread.)

I greatly appreciate all of the comments, and support you guys are giving me. I decided that I am going to go with a non OEM color, its a little different but hopefully I can find something close. I want to go with a burnt orange or something similar, i think it will work well with the rest of the black on the bike. I am going to go down to a body shop tomorrow to get an estimate on how much something like that would cost. I have a painter lined up but he is a little busy dealing with some other stuff right now. Have any of you seen a VFR that color before, I have seen similar colors on other bikes for example the 03 sv1000s.

I think that color would look really good, but im not sure I can pull it off Stosh.

As for the lime green gwcrim, it looks good, but it screams Kawasaki. The more I look at the picture the more it grows on me, but 7 bikes all of them green thats dedication.

Now I just need to clean up that upper fairing, and make sure my lower fairings fit properly. The brackets might have gotten bent during the slide and smack. On a side note I picked up some led turn signal mirrors off ebay, mostly cause I was curious. The mirrors themselves look decent, but the base plates are hideous. Would any of you guys have a set of the oem style mirror bases. I would use mine but one got busted up by a bumper, and the other ground down by pavement.

I went with a non-OEM color on my 1990. Really wanted yellow but couldn't bring myself to do it to a 3rd gen.

My 5th gen project is not a 2000 but I have bought yellow for the 1998 anyway.

A metallic Blue was my first choice, but I dont think it would have work with my wheels being black. If they were silver I most likely would be painting it that color.

I remembered a thread after I posted, i think this mod would work well with the orange.

    http://vfrworld.com/forums/general-vfr-discussions/36405-pretending-i-know-what-i-am-doing-adventures-carbon-fiber-boy.html

The nice thing is that it is something I am capable of doing, I could paint I just dont have the equipment necessary. Plus he did a really nice job on that exhaust.

Orange and black are "in" on KTMs, some Harleys and my 91 VFR. I'd say what germinatrion it is but I never understood that shit.

While we are on the subject. Would it be considered "gauche" to use some carbon fiber vinyl wrap on a VFR?

I was thinking it might look interesting to wrap the tail on my VFR and paint on some yellow pinstripe edging/borders. I suppose I could also use pinstripe tape.

A nice faux carbon fibre using gouache airbrushed through a chunk of screenwire might not be gauche but gosh, it would just wash off the first time in rained.

Fake carbon is... fake. Now if you got a real CF tailpiece, that would be pretty slick looking.

I like the look of your 91, I was going to go with a darker orange. However that 07 candy red keeps looking nice. So I guess I will decide when the time comes. I also thought it would be interesting if I did a orange/black two tone much like this 09 white vfr, but im just spitballin here.

Cool! All kinds of oranges. To see what is available you might have to find an auto specific paint store. They have chips up the wazoo to look at not only for the solids but all the others too. Gotta tell ya. those candy colors are tricky to shoot right. You don't want the average fenderbender shop doing this level of work. They don't know how and if they fuck it up, they will stiff you for the bucks. The reason the factory paint jobs look so good is that the paintwork is robotic.

Just my .02 but if the lines of the bike are followed instead of trying for something that ends up looking like Andy Warhol on crank, instead of some dude walking up and saying " UhHuh" he says. " Cool Bike."

That is unless it's some harleydood and we all know they don't know shit..;)

I couldnt agree more, just for giggles I tried to do some color swaps with Photoshop. Apparently I am really bad at photoshop, but I thought I would post it anyway. I might send off a pic of a VFR to my friend then some color swatches, and have him do it then send me some samples. Here is my disaster, just imagine the wheels are black haha

OK they're black! PS is great for finished product. The trick is to use layers. They can be a PITA and very time consuming especially if you want to explore several options. What I still do and again my .02. is find a profile shot of the bike, run off a few dropped out photocopies at the local bigbox office supply or printer and just hand color in whatever strikes me, with el-cheapo markers.

I know I sound like a cheap SOB but I have motorcycles to support..;)

Ended up painting the bike all white! The kid I had paint my bike had never painted a mostly plastic bike before. He did an alright job on it, it looks good from far away but up close you can notice some defects. For the price I couldn't argue, plus I didn't want to discourage him from being able to paint another one in the future. I am currently looking at getting some vinyl decals made up by one of my other friends. The only thing that I wanted some advice on was that he put a flex agent into the paint, is that necessary or is it just a precautionary measure. There is quite a bit of flexing done to install the fairings but once they are on do they really flex all that much?

Many defects can be buffed or polished out. Since the painter added the anti flexion additive, I'll assume the paint was an automotive type urethane. This stuff is tough. Shops do major dents in panels from the inside and the paint holds.

Most "defects" are from neglected prep. The painting if done in a dust free booth is rarely the cause unless the painter is needing a greater skillset.

The flexion additive for want of a better term evaporates during the curing process. Not a big deal IMO.

To flex is a relative term. If viewed like Arnie in his prime or some of those hard to tell what you are babes on some of the muscle mags then that is flexing bigtime.

According to some of the dudes here who have VFRs that do almost twice the ton, there is some flexion in the fairing..

The fastest VFR I know of here is probably really TC's blown VFR.

Can't tell from the pix.. is the bike clearcoated over the white?

Yes I believe he did clearcoat over the white, he told me he could not buff it out well. That is because I gave him the pieces, so once I installed them on the bike he wanted me to bring it back so he could buff it better.
