Has anyone ever tried a tank from a bigger model or a different bike? If it fits over the air box and has similiar mounts it shouldn't be too hard to make it work right? I was seriously considering a few other tanks yesterday they looked close enough to use but pictures without dimensions kept me from going for it I decided I wasn't feeling lucky.

The bottom of the tanks form quite closely with the top of the airbox. A bolt on application is probably not realistic.

The airboxes are different? I've never noticed that before. Bear in mind that we are talking about different years of the same model, not a model-to-model swap.

I think Ninjamunky is wondering about putting a larger tank from another model onto a VF500.

Ok...so maybe an 84-85 will work but I need the same year Petcock and I'd need to reduce the fuel line to it.

If anyone needs an 86 petcock, I found out that they don't fit on 85's the hard way.

I wish this thread had been here about a week earlier...

Btw if anyone has an 84/85 petcock I could still use one. :frown:
