    You have to let go!

With few exceptions the cyclist and bike will part company very soon after the point of an accident and then the bikes physical status is no longer of consequence (how fast it decelerates will not matter ugh ugh unless the rider forgets to let go). I only know about this from what I've seen during the motorcycle races, and the rider appears to decelerate faster than the bike, even on pavement, even though it might not appear to at first. It appears the unfortunate rider and the bike were still traveling at high enough speed to cause death when it contacted the auto. I would think the experts would recommend to let go ("Know what I mean Vern!"), what's the vote? Capt

Friction of plastic or metal parts is much lower than leather, that is the reason why I don“t like cordura suits when riding.

Regarding staying with the bike... I don'tknow if it's common or anything, but there's a picture that floats around 4chan's /o/ board every now and then. It's in the motivational poster style and depcits a rider who lowsided but is style riding the bike... not just staying with it, but still hanging off the seat in racer fashion! The caption goes, DEDICATION: When you know you're screwed, but keep going anyway. I like it a great deal

That's the one! Thanks, Phaedrus

I like the "Faith" one, too. Especially since I was doing that one the way home tonight. Full lean in 27 degree weather = life

I went down in a 50mph low side slide on my gen.1 and somehow found my self belly down on top of the bike while in a slow spin and my gloved hands and the top of my right foot were in direct contact with the asphalt. Slide lasted about 75 feet (no I diddn't actually measure) and maybe 540 degrees of spin. Thanks to ICON not one scratch on my hands. 1/2 mm of carbon fiber and 5 or 6 mm of foam pad on your palms goes a long way. (or at least 75') Right foot not so lucky. Asphalt ate through the top of my tennis shoe and I got a little bit of road rash on the top of my right foot. (no I don't wear tennis shoes when I ride any more.) Anyway back to the point, had no frame sliders on the bike and Rt side raditor got trashed along with exaust, front fairing, bar end, mirror, brake lever, headlight fairing etc...
Needless to say I'm looking for a crash cage for my gen.6 not frame sliders. Can't seem to find one in production and so far only found one shop brave enough to fab one, but they want $500. Anyone out there have any leads? Its a shame how there seems to be an endless supply of stuff like this available for CBRs and how little there is for VFRs.
