So I got my new FMF Apex (in carbon with titanium ends) and first installed them the way they were intended. Other than the color of the bike, they looked just like the pics on FMF's site. Then I took them off and switched sides. This required some bending of the mounting tabs to make them more vertical. They looked better, but were still too far apart, in my opinion. Then when I installed my OEM saddlebag mounts, I had to remove the spacers between the tabs and mounting holes on the bike. This brought them closer together, but puts some strain on the Y pipe at the muffler connection. The saddlebag mounts are in contact with both mufflers (which I really don't like), but that's how it's going to stay for now. Hopefully they don't rub a hole through the carbon fiber.

So here's some pictures with the saddlebags--

    And Without the saddlebags--

Here's a little video I just took in the garage-- YouTube - FMF Apex Exhaust on 2007 Honda VFR800.MOV

They're not quite as loud as they come across on the video, and definitely sound better in person. If it's warm enough on Monday, I'll try to take it out and get some better outdoor shots.

Thumbs up on putting those pipes on the way they "should" go. The factory setup looks like they were put on the wrong side. Especially when compared to how well the stock pipes tuck under the tail.

Good work! The angles they put on those pipes look perfect with the lines of the VFR in mho. Don't let them rub your bags, I would space them asap. Carbon fiber will scuff much more than Ti. Did you install the quite inserts? They sound good but loud, maybe too loud for me. Maybe its the echo in the garage. Could you get a side shot of the bike without the bags? I want a set of these but don't want to tell the cops Iam coming. I had a carbon Yosh on my 919 and even with earplugs the noise would get overbearing on the highway. Wish it wasn't winter. Thanks again!

I do have the quiet inserts installed...in the quietest position (they can be installed in 2 positions). Based on the few rides I've taken with them on, I doubt you would have any problems with the cops. They really don't seem excessive when you're riding. I've heard plenty of sportbikes with very loud aftermarket pipes, and mine isn't anything like those. I wouldn't rule them out yet, just based on that one video.

Here's a few shots from the side-

New pics with saddlebag mounts removed

So, I decided to take the saddlebag mounts off and do some work on them to get them off the pipes. So I figured I'd take the opportunity to snap some better daytime pics of the exhaust.

They look awesome and sound great. I thought Lasers were the best looking on a VFR...maybe not.

Dave....Thanks for all your fun/hard work you did here. They sound real good not too loud. I think I am getting a set but not sure if I should get the ti with carbon end caps or the ones you have?? Did you feel a "real" hp gain? The first guy to report on the pipes said he got a 7hp increase which I did'nt think was real. Do you want a pipe heel guard or is it ok?

It would be great to see how this all looks with the modified luggage racks and luggage back on!

Can't really say I noticed any difference in power. I'm still getting used to the perceived power increase of going -1F and +2R not too long ago. As far as the luggage, it shouldn't look any different than the pics in the first post. I'm just going to bend the racks a little so they don't contact the pipes.
I wish they made them in all titanium, without the carbon end caps...that's what I would have gotten, if they did. Maybe you should ask them to make you some...they have all the parts, no reason they can't.
I went for a 100 mile ride around town today (temps in the upper 50's) and I'm really liking they way they sound. I can still hear my ipod in my helmet just fine, so they're definitely not too loud.

Very Very nice!!! The only thing I'd prefer as you alluded to is that they be tucked in even tighter, more like the stock cans. But they look great!

Bringing up this old thread. I can't find this exhaust system anywhere for sale. Did FMF stop making them for the VFR?

    Yep. :frown:

Check this thread out--it has what you're looking for.

    Current-Exhaust-Options-for-6th-Gen-in-the-Year-2015

In the US at this point your only other options are searching classifieds here, other boards and eBay for previously made exhaust systems. Or looking abroad but I don't think there are many options out there.

    Good luck!

That is a bummer, they made sweet can for the VFR. I have a set and love them. I checked on their site and they only offer pipes for 4 Honda's....... Sad.

I really like the sound a lot.
Where in Alaska are you? Took a month off work and was all over Alaska, loved it.

I have these as well. The sound is great. The HP seems to be up 1-2. They weigh about 20lbs less than the stock. I think I got mine on sale. Great pipes.
