This is exactly my point, Randy. See, you realize why/when you usually drop your bike. The whole point I was trying to make with hollenbeck is that maybe something IS causing him to drop the bike.

While I was being a dick in my first post (sorry), I'm trying to help the guy prevent it from happening again rather than just thinking its always going to happen.

Ok,everyone for 5th gens listen up I did some digging and found a solution for the problem!!!!! Commen sence is nice when you use it lol.T-rex racing make good frame sliders but only for vfr800 2002 and up so I called them and got the measurements of the bolt and it's 10x160 mm(OEM is 10x100 so go up 60mm on other bolt) well I looked at OEM on bike bandit.com just to see how much longer bolt I need and I don't!!!! The t-rex sliders will fit on 98-01 vfr800,dont believe me go to bike bandit and check the bolt it is the same bolt, they do have different item #'s but the oem in the frame is bolt #23 under frame section on OEM(for 98-01) and if the bolts you get dont fit, call metrics unlimited and get a 10x160 bolt but you'll have to find out the pitch and any machine shop can tell you,and best of all it's a no cut slider!! I'll let you know when I get mine If it works or you need to get another bolt but I'm gonna get pitch tom and go ahead and order both,I'll update later with results

Maybe try some training wheels until you get the problem sorted out?

Gotta go with Pliskin on this one. Around any bike ya gotta pay attention. They will jump up and bite you.

I didn't think you were being a dick, you were just pointing out if you doing dumb sh** then you need to think dumbass lol,but there's alot off people that don't pay attention and shouldn't even be on bikes, but I found solution to frame sliders for 5th gen without cutting fairing,do you think if I get the frame sliders I should get axle sliders? cause I know accidents are gonna happen and I didn't know if just the frame sliders were gonna be enough for just drops,if crash happens then Ill just repaint fairings and redo airbrushing

I found a solution today, that the t-rex sliders no cut for 2002-09 will fit my 5th gen,but as far as my problem of it falling over is 1st time washed bike, wheels and went to lowes and parking lot straight downhill(all are around here for some reason) and wheel were wet and I was in a hurry and just jumped on to quick,2nd parking lot at work has grainy looking sand stuff from where there building new parking lot and I went to go back out both feet slipped and bam,3rd my buddy was helping me work on bike put his weight on it and pushed it over(that one really hurt her) it busted a piece off of the v cowl,as far as experience Im a good rider and been riding for 4yrs then sold my last bike and got the vfr a yr ago,but have only been seriously riding her for a couple of months. My riding is still at same skill level except for knee dragging,I haven't got back to were I feel comfortable in my position any tips lol,but thanks for being glad I'm ok,we may not be blood but every rider is a brother

Get R&G www.rgraciing.com they are perfect, replacement bolt goes through engine.

Dropped mine (stationary) and hardly marked, yes will have to cut holes in faring but well worth it.

Use a dremel to make hole as it difficult to be spot on first time.

Always wear good boots to get good grip, Always have side stand down when pushing bike back.

I found the best way to prevent dropping my bike is to put my feet down when I come to a stop.

That and don't let it roll forward and off the kick stand while your dis-mounting, so you can gouge your brand new flip open helmet you just bought, and get grease in your mesh Tourmaster jacket.

Two ways of looking at it. You can have a closet queen that never sees rain, or the outside of the garage except for 2 or 3 hours on the weekend.

    ...

Or you can ride the pee out of it. Accept the small nick and scratch. And live for the ride not the bike.

I know there has to be a happy medium, but if you ride it the scratches will come no other choice.

If you could simply try to maintain the bike in a more nearly vertical stance and keep the front wheel centered it won't tip over so easily..........:homer:

I tripped walking my dog last summer and fell flat on my face. Wish I had been wearing my gear!

Sorry you're having an issue dropping the bike. I dropped mine yesterday, only had the bike a week. I didn't go down but scarring an otherwise perfect 11 yr old bike hurt quite a bit. I dropped mine avoiding an accident, had to suddenly stop while turning (leaning into turn,) naturally the 500lb bike hit the pavement. Hope you get it figured out, whether its sliders or something else.

I'm glad there is a fresh thread here and I don't mean to highjack it...I dropped my machine last Tuesday on my way home from work. I had just a month ago applied a custom wrap to it. I'm sick, just sick about it because I felt that I could have done something different. I had to brake hard in traffic...I estimate at the time I was travelling about 75 km/h (46.6 mph). The bike dug in for about 10 feet then it went over on its right side. Thankfully I was not serious hurt and was the only vehicle involved. Up here in Northern Ontario, the riding season is almost over so I have all winter (and they are long) to repair the machine and in the spring I intend to take a refresher motorcycle safety course. Practising emergency stops is something that I was suggested to do by a friend...I never did...why you ask? Afraid to drop my bike. The years go by and one gets lucky to not be in any "situations." I may have not been in condition orange...who knows...it happens fast. I am also thankful that I have a good attitude about it and am willing to take action to mitigate future disaster.

Recreating a get off with accuracy is difficult. Does "digging in" mean skidding? If so, the technique employed may have been the over use of the rear brake. At that speed, locking up the rear wheel on a bike with a rear disc brake is easy.

Take the course. It will make you a better rider and more scratch free..

There is a school that will decry the use of the rear brake altogether. This advice is far outweighed by the number of motorcycles with rear brakes.
