yea that's 40 miles with 11/2 gas that way it never wears out-those are hard miles too-not just sitting on the hwy-what fun is that. Ya I bet those PR4 would last at least 10,000+ miles that's double what the sporty tires do.

i knew a guy who did that (against a parking block versus a wall) when his tire was almost toast. Looked kinda of cool when his buddy was taking photos, but he was really gunning it and the rear tire blew apart. I'm sure the scar from the 20-30 stitches it took to close the gaping hole left is the back of his calf was a reminder not to do it again. Naturally he was wearing a T-shirt, flip flops and shorts at the time. LOL

I bet you could get hurt from a tire blowing out. I have burned off hundreds through the years and have not had one pop yet. But I don't run them to the cords either. And I run proper tire pressure too.

this is the biggest reason why your tires will never last-easy on the gas when starting off:joker:

No complaints from my roughly 8,500 miles with the PR4s. But yes rear wear bar is almost gone and front has the usual feathering/scalloping.

I went with the 4 because of large variations in the weather I ride in, rain being my first concern. Strangely the rain missed me all but one occasion with a short mega-downpour. Not once did the 4 ever give me a hint of breaking trac.

Still I'm wondering about the PR3s or another alternative, anyone wanna give their best pitch?

Been using a PP3/PR4 combo and have nothing but good grip and great mileage. Michelins will let you know when it's time to change them! The rear will start to step out a little. Nothing that will cause any detriment IMO, but enough to let you you know the tire has reached its useful life.

Longevity is the only reason for me to switch up. But that's really not a huge factor, coming from the old CB750 which gets about 2,800 miles on a rear. I am feeling rather spoiled at getting 3 times the life with the PR4...

Well... I was all set on getting a pair of PR4's now seeing this thread I'm starting to feel less secure about it...

5th gen. I just ride causally, around town and a good amount of free way time. I wanted a tire that will last me a while and still feels confident in a average corner. Should I still get the PR4 or GT or something else in the same budget range?

The PR4 GT is meant for heavier bikes like the VFR 1200 and other heavy sport touring bikes i.e. BMW K1600, Kawasaki Concours 1400, etc. but doesn't mean you can't use it on the 5 Gen but it would have a stiffer sidewall and may make the ride a little rougher. I believe the GT is actually more expensive, so unless you want to pay more I'd go with the standard PR4. If you were actually talking about the Pirelli Angel GT, can't go wrong their either I just don't have any experience with that tire to say how well it works, grip or mileage wise BUT there are several VFR riders who swear by them. YMMV

My guess is the Angel gt too rides very rough like the PR4 gt- I bought the standard PR4- I don't won't a rough ride over all ready crappy roads.

Can't speak directly for Pirelli but it's called the Angel GT as there was another version of the Angel called the Angel ST, so the GT in this case is most likely not the same as the PR4 GT.

You might be right about the angel gt- I am guessing the Pr 4 is much better in rain and crappy weather. I didn't want anther crappy tires like my dunlops were-too much on a racing tire with little tread.

this was not a good test-dry hot weather with no rain, no tire can do everything perfect, PR 4 are a rain tire.

You do realize who you are talking to do, right? As the saying goes, every village has one!

Seems the Metzelers made a great impression! I like that they did this as a blind test. Definitely removes any bias one would have when doing the evaluation.

As far as the PR4, I don't run the PR4 front. I didn't like the turn in on the PR2 and figured the PR3/PR4 would be pretty much the same so that's why I run the PP3 for the front. I like the turn in on the PP3 and fortunately the mileage seems to last as long as the PR4 rear, at least on my commuter VFR. I can get around 5-6K miles on a PP3 set and this is from sport touring, with more emphasis on sport.
