Go grab the 'Screamadelica Live' DVD, one of the best versions of Higher than the Sun you can hear. Also one of the best live concerts you'll get to see IMO. Primal Scream will be playing with 'The Cult' here in So Cal. They have a show at the Hollywood Palladium and San Diego House of Blues. I'm going to the Palladium show, it's the day after Thanksgiving, tempted to also get tickets to the SD show too. The Palladium isn't the best place for sound but it's a small venue so it's more "intimate". I've seen so many bands there (Primal Scream included) and always had a great time. The SD HoB looks like it would be a smaller venue but most likely have better sound.

When I saw Primal at the HoB in Hollywood, Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols joined them on stage and they did a few cover songs, it was an amazing show!

    Gotta love the lyrics!

    Dealers keep dealin'
    Thieves keep thievin'
    Whores keep whorin'
    Junkies keep scorin'
Trade is on the meat rack
    Strip joints full of hunchbacks
    Bitches keep bitchin'
    Clap just keep a itchin'

    Ain't no use in prayin'
That's the way it's stayin', baby
    Johnny ain't so crazy
He's always got a line for the ladies
    Yeah yeah yeah

well for me, a cool song isn't about how the musicians dress or act on stage but rather how it makes you feel. And specifically a cool song isn't the kind you dance to but rather just sit down or stand and relax with your favorite alcoholic beverage. And moreso, the general attitude of a cool song is almost like a stoner attitude, "Just fuck it, enjoy the ride while it lasts" without being depressing or overly cheesy.

This thread has dissolved into a puddle of shock yer mum's & da's with painted nails and eyeshadow, crotchless/assless chaps and the chaps in surrogate attire of plasticized bikerwear, rolled up sox in the crotches, and moves and licks that are 50 years old.

And a crowd of young boys, they're fooling around in the corner
Drunk and dressed in their best brown baggies and their platform soles
They don't give a damn about any trumpet playing band
It ain't what they call rock and roll
And the Sultans, yeah, the Sultans, they play Creole, Creole

I agree with you completely. I think you read into my post too much. While not concisely on topic I did say "cool performance." Alex Harvey was original, taking off on the Who's queue of a rock opera, and actually performing it. A separate issue, the song Midnight Moses complies with your definition of cool methinks.

In contrast, Kiss concentrated on mammoth, overly-done performances but they have yet to write a cool song.

Along that theme, I would take Blue Collar Man by Styx over Working Man any day. Great vocals, great distorted keyboard, excellent guitar.

While it may not quite be the Coolest song of all time have always thought UKs mid '70s 2 Tone / SKA band " The Specials " song " A Message To You Rudy " while lyrically simple still pretty cool.

Although they were a little bit before my day, got to say the Rolling Stones 'Sympathy for the Devil' is on my list... "But what's puzzling you, is the nature of my game"
