I have pulled the carbs on my 84 VF1000R and in the spirit of leaving no stone unturned, I pulled the coolant pipes which sit in the valley between the heads.
The pipes have an oring sealing the end (in the 84 R it is a 13x2.5mm oring; 91335-567-000 same as the 84 F). Has anybody tried using the D section oring (91315-ME9-003) from the later model?

I just some some (not the D) for my 84 1000f. Got them from shspowersports. I know this isn"t answering your question but originals are available. Hope this helps.

I have the originals and also the later version. The later version is actually not d shaped but more like a round oring with a shoulder on one side. I will try to get a picture to explain better.
